Misuse of:

Irony
Myriad

Mispronunciation of:

Nuclear (not nookyular)
February (not Febyooary)
Often (the T is silent)
Anyway (there is no "s," which really isn't a mispronunciation, but anywaY)
I was just trying to think of the annoying way people say nuclear to post it but I couldn't think of it. So THANK YOU thats so annoying!

Question - is grammar heavily taught in US/Canadian schools? It is taught over here but since it does not particularly matter for our exams it is pretty much forgotten about by the time we get to 3rd year onwards (I believe the US equivalent of 8th grade).

That is what I hate most about the UK exam system - things like correct grammar and numeracy are things you would most likely use every day for the rest of your life, however we spend 4 years discussing how the dark blue lampshade shows the deep depression of the central character since that is what our exams are based on.
Not to mention the pressure to pick your career path at 16.

I wrote "spelt" in a paper once and my teacher wrote a question mark next to it. I never realized it wasn't a word (at least it's not here), I say it liked spelt so I thought it was right. Now I hate when I see it.

I also hate when people shorten probably to "prolly" for texts/tweets. I mean if you're gonna shorten it make it "prbly" that at leas looks more like the ordinal word.
That's so funny because it is definitely spelt in NZ! I find this so interesting!

You were not wrong.

Yes! It's not "a myriad of", it's just "myriad" - for example, "he was given myriad warnings."

Also I get peeved with alumni/alumnus. Alumni is plural. You are not an alumni, you are an alumnus. You and your friends together are alumni

unless you're a girl, then you're an alumna ;) (or a group of girls who are alumnae)

It's weird that all those window stickers from universities that you display proudly on your car say "alumni" and not "alumnus" then. Knowing that alumni is the plural version now makes those things really weird to look at.

I once had a teacher that said "melk" instead of 'milk', and "gararge" instead of 'garage'.

Now that we're on the topic of pronunciation, I can't stand Ebonics. I heard that the Oakland school district (Cali) made a rule in 1996 stating that Ebonics could be offered as a foreign language class.

LMAO.

Syrup, do you say it sear-up or sir-ip?
Sir-rup and I hate when people say seerup! Another thing I hate... One time I was baking with a friend and the recipe called for maple syrup and she tried to put that fake "mrs butterworth" type syrup in and I was like "no!" And she was like "what, it's syrup...." *facepalm*
My relatives on my dads side make real maple syrup so I'm kind of a syrup snob. I can't deal with the fake stuff. I need real syrup! Most people I know use the fake stuff though. Blehhh
