@cheerbailey - It seems a lot of your information is coming from your friends, and not from the gym itself. When I was cheering, I thought I knew about costs, travel fees and accommodations, but I really didn't have much of a clue. I'd get the solid information from the gym itself before making a decision. I understand that your friends might have some of the answers, but know that their answers are coming from the perspective of a kid and not from an adult who has to pay for a lot of these expenses.

Yes! I was asking my CP11 this afternoon if she knew how much her cheerleading cost per year. She guessed about $1000. I wish it did!

I also think her parents need to be asking these questions to the gym. Your gym should have a packet that gives most of the information you are looking for. You will probably be able to find it on their website.

Agreeing with the previous two posters, ask the gym directly what their costs are. Based on how many competitions your friend said they go to that are overnights, expect to spend more than 3,000 that season. Depending on the hotels, you might spend 3,000 on hotels alone and that wont include travel to get to the hotel.

It is interesting how costs are so drastically different. What does 3,000 a season include? That number seems so low.

We pay $235 per month ($2820 per year). It includes 4 hours of squad practice and 1 hour of tumbling per week, competition fees, choreography, coaches expenses, coaches expenses, and our annual end of the year banquet. It does not include travel, practice uniform, shoes, optional warm-ups, or competition uniform. Our required make-up is just lipstick (for all squads), so that is only about ten dollars.

This is what my mom and I had heard from my friends mom who is a coach on her daughter's team. The three grand covers entry fees, gym fees, coaching fees, tumbling class fees, and other fees for the team. It does not cover travelling fees, hotel costs, food, clothing and other supplies not furnished by the team. They said that we can have some of the out of pocket costs defrayed by doing fundraisers to count for stuff like travel costs if we have to fly to Texas and Florida this year. My mom is going to talk to the gym and see what she can find out.

Here's what I know from what my friends mom told us who is a coach on her team. That the covered costs by the three grand are the gym fees, coaches fees, entry fees, choreography fees, banquet fees and other fees for the team. We cover the travel costs, hotel fees, practice clothing, uniforms, supplies, medical supports, shirts and other things bought at competition, spirit shirts and cosmetics. I know our out of pocket stuff is probably going to be somewhere in the 7 to 9 grand range before it's all said and done.

@cheerbailey some uniforms are pretty revealing but it depends on the team! Most teams have full tops now which is nice and I had a girl on my team with longer legs who asked to get an inch added to her skirt so depending on the company making them it's definitely possible! I'm pretty sure typical use for a uni is 3 years so that's nice! Our practice wear is just a tank with the gyms logo and Nike pros with the logo as well but I've seen some gyms with a matching sports bra and shorts! You can search up practice wear threads on here too to get an idea :)

I was just kinda shocked when I saw how short the jersey was. I was at her place, hanging out and asked if I could try her Jersey on since we're about the same size (she's 5' 11" tall and weighs about 130 pounds. I'm 6' 1" and weigh about 135). I felt about half naked standing there in her Jersey. I'm not used to wearing revealing clothing. Her mom looked in on us and told us that the jersey design is in its second season...so it's looking like that's what we're going to have. How do I get past the exposed feeling in that revealing of a jersey? I had seen her practice gear and it don't look too bad. Mainly just a regular shirt that the gym provides and shorts. I do have some sports bras at home from playing field hockey, basketball and soccer...but I need to replace them. Is there any decent ones for ones with larger chests (I'm a 36 C)?

You're pretty tall, I would probably get length added if I was as tall as you! Just so the skirt doesn't feel so short. As for sports bras, I've found some lulu lemon ones do the trick and I've heard good things about Victoria's Secret! As gross as it sounds, I buy a lot of mine used hahah just cause they are so expensive

Surprisingly, I'm not the tallest person in my family. My oldest sister is 6' 4", my older brother is 6' 8", my youngest sister is already 6' 0" and she's only 13, my mom is 6' and my dad is 6' 7". I'll probably get some added to the skirt. I'm thinking like 3 or 4 inches. My friends skirt came to just above the bottom of my butt. Not exactly a flattering look, lol :D. For my sports bras, I've been buying the Jillian Michaels sports bras as well as Joe Boxer sports bras from Kmart. They're fairly reasonably priced and pretty comfortable. I've never had other brands like Under Armour and Victoria's Secret. So, I don't have that to fall back on. I may have to look at used. I'm not above going to yard sales, second hand stores and thrift stores. Where do you get yours at?

Regarding the skirt length, most companies only let you add 1-2 inches. When you get fitted for a uniform just bring up the topic of adding length to the skirt and the top if need be. For sports bras, a lot of people like the Nike ones, especially since you can find matching spandex.

I did not know that with the length of the skirt. I know I'll probably get the max added since I'm so tall. I've seen the Nike sports bras before but I didn't know how they were. How well do they usually hold up?

I've never had one mainly because I don't need the support they provide since I'm fairly flat chested. A lot of people like them though and I'm sure others on this board could tell you about them.

I know of some girls on my previous teams that were kinda on the small side. I've always been big chested. I've been a C cup for half a year or more and still growing kinda. I know I need the support .
