There was a thread similar to this a little while ago but I can't find it now and could do with an answer. In a pyramid with 3 stunt groups, the outside two both in prep libs, if my centre stunt has one leg lifted to in 'lib position' but the foot still in the base's hands and backspot still holding on, would this still count as a two legged stunt and be acceptable to brace? It would mimic the look of prep paper doll libs without the centre flyer technically being in a lib.

I don't think so. I coached a J1 team last year and tried to do hitches on the outside and a lib in the middle and it didn't work. Not legal.

Pretty sure this is why. "The lowest connection between the bases and the top person is above waist level and below extended level." a grey area though for sure.

But if one of the feet is at prep level, then that would be the lowest connection level. Not the foot that is above prep level, that would be the highest. It even specifically states shoulder level hitches are legal, which I don't think would be any different than shoulder level libs. So if that is considered prep level, idk what would make the OP's example illegal.

As i understand it (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) Hitches done with the base just extending their arms are considered a 2 legged stunt because the base is still in a position to bear the flyer's weight. Free hitches aren't 2 legged. In a lib, it would take a grip change to bear weight so it isn't a 2 legged stunt.

Maybe I was interpreting it wrong then, I was thinking the lib would be exactly like the hitch with the base just extending their arms up, no change in grip.

Thanks for the input everyone. Might have to get a video of it to send off to USASF for clarification!

Oh, true. I sent in a video to USASF though and it came back illegal.

ETA: my middle of the pyramid was an extension though, that's probably why.

Based on the definition of a stunt (which states that a stunt is two legged if supported by two feet) and the definition of prep level, which, as mentioned above, is the lowest connection between the flyer and the base, this should be legal.

However, the only way to be 100% sure is to email a video of the skill to [email protected]. You now have to provide your USASF member ID number as well as your program's USASF member ID number in order to get a ruling, otherwise it will go unanswered. Also take a look at these guidelines before submitting your video Cheer Questions | USASF Cheer Rules Good luck! :)

What was your structure? I might be reading your posts wrong, but we did hitches (two feet, not one) connected to the extensions in our pyramid and that was legal.

I remember now. It was from my owner. I wanted to do it, and even quoted the rules, but she overruled me. :)
