I know this is a dumb thought but what if the new rule was because the music mixers were sick of using current songs and so now they want to use there own songs to use?
This is creating more work for them so why would they want that?

Isn't a bit of a work to find the songs and remix them? I don't know how that works but it just sounds ALOT easier just to remix and use a song you plan out how it should sound.

Just out of curiosity- Is it more expensive to get a custom mix this season than previous? Does anyone know?!?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when I cheered our coaches gave the producer the songs we wanted to use. And either way they would still have to remix them.

It's definitely not. 2 music producers were very much sued by Sony Music for using current songs.

Ha ha. I was thinking USASF had to pay royalties for all the music playing online (like Youtube and such) and they cut the sound to avoid paying this and losing money. Don't know that it's true, just a thought I had listening to some new mixes a few days ago

The overall consensus has been yes. I know our monthly tuition (we do all-inclusive at our gym) went up this season and part of it had to do with the increase to music.

I figured it should since it is more work but our costs didn't seem to go up.

I think it depends on the producer. Ours didn't change, but I'm sure some have upped. I've noticed a lot of smaller producers working with larger producers in order to keep prices down.

No this isn't true, when videos are uploaded to youtube they are ran through software that automatically figures out what copyrighted material is in the video. 9 times out of 10, the companies will actually allow YouTube to keep the copyrighted content, and they get money directly from the views of ads. So they didnt break any laws by using the music on youtube, because all the music used got its credit fr0m views.

Its actually a win win for content creators, I think the main problem was Varsity using the music on their website, beacause there is no way for the original creators to get their cut from all the views. My question is what about AKON, DIAMOND, TRINA, LIL JON, ETC Still doing music. You know how they actually sing remixes to their original songs, and incorporate the team name etc. Can they still do that? Or it all has to be custom?

I'm not sure about this; if the songs were the original version I would agree with you because YouTube catches it very quickly. As an example, I uploaded quite a bit during the World's/Summit weekend and the only time YT caught any of the copyrighted music was when the video included the song breaks between performances. When it came to the actual mixes used by the team, the YT uploaded didn't catch any of that.

So we got our music from Pulse FX and its the best music my team has ever had - Literally so exciting and non stop !
I had a feeling this MAY happen, while it was stressful finding music and at the time it was annoying that we couldn't use our favorite songs on the radio, now that I hear our music I'm like wow NO ONE is going to have a mix like ours - it makes everything for "custom" and original which sounds like that is maybe what they were going for ? aside from people being sued ha

Its gonna be nice not hearing Kelly Clarkson and Fight Song in every mix this year!

Stars Vipers mix was on my youtube feed today. From all the new mixes I've heard so far this season, I don't really miss actual music until the dance section. I have yet to hear a mix that I can appreciate the dance part. Maybe seeing routines with the music will complete it.

Quoting you under this mix because it sounds like Ying Yang Twins to me (not sure if it actually is or just a voice guy that is great at impressions.) Still doesn't answer the question, but maybe they can't since this sounds custom and not like any existing song. I guess we'll see if any mixes come out with actual songs tweaked for teams by the real artist.
