That is a fair argument. The NFL calling themselves "World Champion" doesn't bother me because they are pretty clearly the best team in the world (that day) at that particular brand of football, but I can understand your view.
Our sport can have literally thousands of different teams call...
I understand that no one is likely going to change their opinion, but I will throw in my 2 cents anyway.
Those sports you mention have those limitations - when you represent your country. The kids on Top Gun Large Coed (or any other team) aren't representing the United States - they are...
CA KittyKatz won for the 10th year in a row. We believe that ties the most historically with Cali Blackjacks, (who I don't think was a team this year.)
I would like to include the 2021 IASF Worlds results in the Big Worlds Spreadsheet, but I can't seem to locate all of the results. Does anyone have a link to that information?
Strength to weight ratio & body weight distribution play big factors in male vs female tumbling - particularly standing back flips. Also, guys are often more fearless (foolish?) about trying some skills. (Just general trend, lots of variance from individual to individual)
Like many topics, expansion of mega-gyms is polarizing and most people tend to view everything through a particular lens. People (like me) will tend to see it in a positive light and can talk about the benefits and virtues (training/marketing/choreo/economies of scale/shared...
Particular to Worlds, I understand the dislike for having both the senior open vs international divisions. The problem is the intense disagreement most US teams have for the drastic scoresheet de-emphasis on tumbling and the geographic quotas for finals for the "international" divisions. If...
The "real" music mixes were significantly more enjoyable to listen to back in the day. The production quality is great on most mixes lately, but they all sound incredibly similar in tone, pace, and energy. Perhaps it just my age showing through, but I don't enjoy ANY cheer music any more. I...
As I said earlier, number of locations does not tell the whole story. (That is NOT a shot at any particular brand, just an observation.). Also, different brands run things in different ways. Some brands centrally own and run all of their locations. Some basically rent out a logo. Most are...
Numbers of gyms/locations (4 or more, some count multiple locations as a single "franchise", so some #s may vary)
14 - Rockstar
12 - ACE, Cheer Athletics, Cheer Extreme
8 - Premier, World Cup, Cheer Sport Sharks
7 - Stingray
6 - Cali, ICE, ECE
5 - Top Gun, Woodlands Elite, Midwest Cheer Elite
4...
I appreciate the kind words.
(Obvious disclosure that I have spent my entire career at this particular "mega gym", so I am not remotely objective on this topic.)
I can't really speak to why everyone else chooses to join with a "mega" gym, I only know why some have chosen us. I honestly don't...
Not really. We have had issues getting some buildings open at the right time (don't get me started on bureaucratic permitting processes), but there is not a single location we wouldn't do again. We are pretty selective about who/where we take on and we pass on far more than we approve.
Here is what I have:
World Cup
Columbia, SC
Columbus, OH
East Granbury, CT
Easton, PA
Freehold, NJ
Lancaster, PA
Olyphant, PA
Rock Hill, SC
Rockstar
Arizona (Maricopa)
Atlanta GA
Atlanta South GA
Chambersburg, PA
Charlston, SC
Cleveland, OH
Greenville, SC
Holly Springs, NC
Lake Norman, NC...
California is not particularly business friendly. Tax rates, commercial property values (rental or purchase) around the big cities, state regulations around businesses/franchises, etc mean that other states are more attractive and far easier to make work. I am sure it will happen from someone...
The Flo/Varsity video scenario is incredibly frustrating. I still don't understand the legal system where a large company can argue that images of a California All Star (minor) athlete, on a California All Star team, in a California All Star uniform, performing a routine choreographed by a...
CA Charlotte got a bronze in 2019 with Thronecats. Pittsburgh's PlatinumCats was the second non-Plano medal. (Pittsburgh was close in 2019 with a 4th place finish.)
