COLUMBIA, Md. (WBFF) - A Howard County gymnastics instructor has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

The accused, 56-year-old Paul Daniel Bollinger, is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $2.5 million bail. Investigators say a preliminary review of his computer and digital storage devices have found over 30,000 images and video of child pornography.

"Further investigation has indicated that he is sexually attracted to children and writes stories about having sex with children," police wrote in a release on Thursday. "Investigation at this time has not indicated that Bollinger is involved in the production of child pornography."

An investigation began in May over possible distribution of child pornography online, which led detectives to Bollinger's Windsor Mill home. A search and seizure warrant was executed on May 25, during which time his computer and "numerous" digital media storage devices were recovered. The devices will now undergo a detailed forensic examination.

Detectives say Bollinger has been coaching gymnastics for 25 years and was a gymnastics coach at Top Flight Gymnastics in Columbia Md. Anyone with information on the suspect or this case is asked to call police at 410-307-2020.

My God, I cannot even imagine how horrified, terrified, just plain nauseous the parents of the kids who attended that gym must feel. Even if he never actually assaulted any of the kids....just to know he was that sick & twisted and around my kid, SPOTTING my kid....oh God. I don't know what I would do.

I'm disappointed Rockstar didn't go to the aithorities.
Reading that made me lose a LOT of respect for Rockstar as a program. I obviously don't know all of the circumstances, but if I owned a business and fired one of my employees for having innapropriate conversations with a minor, I would absolutely report it to the police/authorities. Like the person said in the article, firing them and not reporting it just pushes the problem aside. Fortunately he was caught before he did anything, but it's awful to think about what we could have done and I'm extremely disappointed that Rockstar didn't alert the authorities.

I, too, am glad that it appears he was caught before something worse happened. It is difficult to pass judgement on a gym without knowing the full story. There are things that could warrant getting fired and reporting to the parents that don't yet rise to the point of being illegal. They also may have been the ones that encouraged the parents to go to the police.

it said that he had over 30,000 images of explicit images of children. he has essentially encouraged the assault of children. people who create the images/videos, and ultimately create the assault, are encouraged to do so either for monetary gain or simply attention. to me, encouraging is just as bad as committing the assault.

While it is not the gym's job to determine whether an employee's activities with a minor rise to the point of being illegal, I don't see anything wrong with the gym having a policy of informing the police when an employee is terminated for inappropriate contact with a minor. Then, the police can determine whether that person violated any criminal law.

Rockstar might find themselves in trouble if the conversations this man had between himself and the girl made them suspect his intentions. The story says he sent nude photos to the girl in the sting. If that was the reason why he was fired from Rockstar, whomever reported it to the parents but not the authorities will be in legal hot water (along with the parents, assuming they did not report it to the authorities, either).

You are absolutely right...I didn't think about it that way. I hope he rots in the worst kind of hell.

I watch a lot of prison documentary type shows and every one makes it a point to mention that sex offenders and especially child sex offenders are treated terribly by the other inmates. A lot of them are kept locked away in protective cells or in administrative segregation (only 3 hours of rec time per week, no privileges) with very limited privileges simply because the other inmates will attack.

You know your scum when the other prison inmates feel like your the bottom of the barrel and have no moral compass.
