I'm with @nicolee that when Trump was first brought up I was excited just because I knew it would be comedy gold. Here and now---I'm not laughing anymore. I also hate to sound like 'that' American, but I will truly have to consider my residency in our country if he's elected. I just can't imagine our country getting through 4 years of him being in office without all out war and chaos breaking out; that is literally all I see when I imagine a future with him at the helm.

I know a few people who support him and it seriously boggles my mind. They all say it's because he's not a 'typical' politician, but I also find that these people are the same ones who judge the government based on the way they THINK it should work, not how it actually does. This is one of my biggest pet peeves in the world. One large supporter of him has also jumped into the, "It's the media's fault, they villianized him..." bandwagon but she does this with everything she disagreed with.

I also think the GOP needs to take some ownership in Trump's success as well---despite the nearly 2 page list of nominee's we have at one point, they failed to back anyone for a long enough period of time to over take him. I mean Ben Carson was also a unicorn among candidates but he wasn't going to win; the majority of Florida dislikes Rubio and he's likely losing his seat after one term because he has one of the worst records in the Senate of all time; Jeb---good ole Jeb, bwahahaha no. Most of NJ hates Christie so again he's out and the list goes on. Cruz (though I don't like him) might have had a chance, but if they wanted to go with someone who could hold his own, speak intellectually and fit the bill of what a President looks like (not gender related, just being put together) I would have put my money early on Kasich. Doesn't mean I'd want him to win, but I think he would have had a better shot come November then Trump will.

My biggest fear, I think right now, is that polling indicates Trump loses regardless of who the Democrats nominate. But, the longer Trump goes on the more manipulation time he has and frankly, he's too Hitler-ish for me. Hitler went ignored and/or pandered to for way too long before he became the power he was and this is like a micro level of that same scenario.

I believe Rubio has already said he's not running for his seat again. So he's basically unemployed after this election.

But I think he would have had a better chance of beating a Democrat than Cruz would. Cruz is too much of an evangelical for the moderate vote. Kasich is interesting. I'm glad he's still in it, though I don't think he'll get the nomination.

Here's a 538 article - it's from January though:

I'm a democrat but I do like Rubio. Not a fan of all of his policies, but I think he could have a bright future for that party. He's young and could have a few more runs ahead of him, plus now he has some experience. Kasich is easily the most experienced left, so it's sad he won't get the nomination.

I do think the RNC will be verrrrrry interesting. So many higher-ups are opposed to Trump, but the people have spoken with their votes. (sadly)

Kasich would have been the ideal candidate for me for Republicans. I could even vote for Kasich and not feel entirely disgusted and entirely discouraged if it came to voting against Hillary.

No matter who wins next Fall it will be an entire mess.

My cousin posted a video on facebook the other day called "Why I'm Voting for Donald Trump"
I thought it was a joke.
It wasn't.
:wham:
Oh my friend screenshotted a list someone posted on why he was voting for Trump. It was about 32 reasons, one of which included "He runs the Miss Universe pageant". 1. Not sure how that qualifies you for president and 2. I guess he missed where he was forced out of that position for inflammatory statements.

Another favorite, "He was born in the US. Remember, Obama's dad is not from the US so he is technically not eligible for the position is he in." I just.....cannot.

Mods feel free to delete this if its not appropriate, but this election is basically like choosing which STD you'd rather have. Like none of them are good, but which one would you mind having the least.

Bacterial vs Viral. Always go with Bacterial......Trump is Viral...everyone else is a bacterial infection that will go away with antibiotics....and in 4 years.....

Conveniently forgetting the fact that Cruz was born in Canada (and his dad was born in Cuba) and Rubio's parents are immigrants. People are dumb.

It continues to blow my mind that the GOP hasn't thrown support to Kasich.

Just reinforces "the uneducated like Trump."

No matter who wins, we're all f*cked so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He's relatively moderate. To win the primary you have to appeal to the base of your party, but to win the election you have to appeal to moderates. So it's not surprising that Cruz is ahead of Kasich. Kasich isn't going to get the super conservative vote. Cruz literally showed up in person to support Kim Davis.
