I was told once you were in premier you couldn't switch ( or at least that's what I was told when I asked a very good source why Canada didn't go back to elite) .
They only placed 7th so I can't see how it was worth it to switch
I think they rule was that you could only have a team either on elite or premier not both so Canada made the choice to stay in premier

Hmm I see. I understand the rule but I just don't really think of elite as a lower version of premier.. Level 5&6 are just different beasts to meThe year we switched, we had 4 teams, one in each division. We were definitely asked to leave the Elite division
ETA - As for rules this year, I'm not sure about the number of teams

In AS, yes they are, but the rules in ICU are not quite the same as AS 5/6. That's just the best corresponding level for Elite/Premier, based on major skills. In ICU, Elite is seen as a more beginner level versus Premier which is the harder/more established teams division.
They annocued next year we will have some new categories. Anyone know which ones?
I think I read somewhere that paracheer will be an official division in ICU worlds next year. Other than that, not sure if there will be other categories. They annocued next year we will have some new categories. Anyone know which ones?
You'd have to win it a good few times (not sure whether consecutively) in order to be forced into the Premier division. If your statement were true, team New Zealand wouldn't have been allowed to compete in the coed elite division this year as they had won last year (and the year before too, I think?). Canada won something like 5 times or whatever which is why they only compete in Premier now.I think I saw a rule saying if you win elite this year next ICU the country must move up to premier
Yes, those divisions were removed because group/partner stunts were too similar to acrobatic gymnastics. If cheer ever does become a sport at the Olympics, it would be at least 10 Olympics from now... for starters they're not even under F.I.G., which already has a queue, with power tumbling, acrobatics, aerobics etc., waiting to enter the Olympics.I haven't heard anything yet, but I wonder if they're going to bring group/partner stunting back?? Though I think they had to get rid of it in order to fall in line with other guidelines to set the stage for the Olympics (in 20??)

The other alternative is to have ICU as the main governing body for cheerleading internationally (which is sort of is now)... so be its own federation. The problem is even the so called "World Championships" for cheer are being held at the same location every year, true WCs are hosted by a different nation/city every year.
USASF can still have the Cheerleading Worlds(club teams), but it shouldn't be associated with an actual World Championships(country teams). Most countries' governing body for cheerleading aren't even funded or recognised by their respective ministry of sports... you can call me a pessimist, but I don't actually think cheer will make the Olympics, at least not in my lifetime (I really would be thrilled to be proven wrong though).

Team Canada was not 'asked/told' to go Premiere after continually winning. ICU simply made a rule where you could only be in 2 divisions. Since Elite was obviously easier for Canada they wanted to challenge themselves. Also- many level 5 cheerleaders are asked to refrain from doing Team Canada in order to concentrate on USASF Cheer Worlds
