But you are also looking at kids like my cp who at 5'3 and 90 was too big to fly and replaced with 10 and 11 year olds on a senior team. She nuggeted most of the year because she had never based and they didn't have a base position for her. (Neither her or the gyms fault she had a HUGE growth spurt over the summer)

Awkward... I think I read the #4 rule wrong with my limited sleep this morning. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I took it is 8 kids from j5 at worlds can crossover to other teams. Wow

I should work on my reading comprehension lol

Have j5 teams included in the current number of worlds bids available. It would improve the overall quality of the competition as the weaker teams would not earn as many bids.
I also think it would force some smaller gyms who at this point can field a Junior 5 and a Senior 5 by using the some of the same athletes - especially flyers - to see if they truly have enough level 5 athletes to field 2 level 5 teams. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but might cause them to have to re-evaluate their program.

Oh they better not be. Best decision IMO was getting rid of Juniors at worlds.

I honestly didn't understand why we brought this old thread back. It's the same rumor every year.

ETA: I can actually understand having a Junior division at ICU because there are probably so few Junior teams that A- It wouldn't add much on time and B- it's probably one of the few times they could compete with enough teams for a proper division.
The argument is that it's easier to get into the Olympics by having a "Junior Worlds" because then they can be in the Youth Olympics. But with a quick search on Google I see that the age of Youth Olympics is age 14-18, so that's not really junior age…

Btw, they've added a day for ICU. So ICU is now Wednesday-Friday.

So the extra day is specifically for Juniors then? Are the age grids for Juniors in ICU the same as they are for USASF? And just level 5, right?

I was just looking on the ICU site. Currently, the only Junior division is Scholastic - Junior School Division which says it's similar to Advanced Division/Level 4 Rules.

I'm curious. Would they create a Junior Team USA to compete in that? With ICU being country vs country instead of club vs club, they would have to. Wouldn't they?

In the proposal I've seen they have opening ceremonies and junior divisions Wednesday, semi-finals for senior divisions Thursday and finals for senior divisions Friday. They have two junior cheer divisons, one lower level and one level 5 (elite). I think it's still a proposal and has not been finalized yet.

In the ICU senior divisions the age grid is not the same as USASF, so the junior divisions doesn't have to be the same, but could be.

Pretty sure they will have a level 5 division, but maybe advanced/L4 is the lower level.

It would be interesting to see USA field a junior national team. They don't have to though, some countries send a club team to represent their country. USA sends college teams in the dance divisions.

If this were true, I think they'd end up having to select a club team to represent the US if they chose to compete in the junior competition. The current team USA is made up of adults, mostly in college, and they take a week off of life before worlds and stay in Fl after NCA College Nationals to learn their routine and practice 24/7. While I'm sure there are some parents who would hop on a plane in a heartbeat for Susie, that model isn't feasible for children who are required to be in school.

This sounds more sensible, but that club team would have to have practiced on hard floor... ICU's mats are non-sprung. Get Stingray Allstars' Green or something and they're set, Stingrays level 5 athletes showcase their hard floor tumbling during their showcase every year and it's pretty solid.

No, more divisions but the same amount of bids. There are some killer J5 teams out there that would do better than some of the S5 teams.

My question is, how many of those killer j5 teams are out of gyms that also use the top talent from said junior teams for their senior teams? If there were no junior/senior crossovers, could the best junior teams (say top 3 from summit) still have a team?

I'm guessing that since the new D2 summit rules specifically allow a higher amount of crossovers between Worlds and J5 at that comp... That there would be some backlash against limiting crossovers in this division.

My understanding from our ICU delegate is that at the AGM following worlds the General Assembly voted to include a Junior ICU Worlds. Provisionally the two divisions to be offered are levels 4.2 and 5. The age range voted was 12-16 years so it is not the same as the USASF age for Juniors.

I don't know about other gyms, but WE only had 2 crossovers from Colonels to Worlds teams, and one of those athletes stepped in mid-nationals season onto a Worlds team due to an injury. Since Colonels was large- yes they would still have a team.

Hug them tight and never let them go!

Would you be able to keep track of placements throughout the season and use those to determine which junior team represents USA in ICU? Sort of how we have the Triple Crown, just with a much higher prize.
