UMMM Questions:

1. I have a degree in music education (double concentration in voice and piano). Can we use original music? Not that I'm confident enough to use my own original scores but i have TONS of friends with AMAZING voices and music who would release any permission just to have their art heard. Not to mention its better than id say 80% of whats on the radio. I mean these are skilled and educated musicians not raw talent that is discovered and exploited.

2. Secondly, I am using unleash the beats for my two school teams this season... I guess I'm slightly apprehensive about the quality but i trust my music guy. I read earlier that the cheer music producers can edit. Does this mean to the fullest extent??? Sorry if these questions have already been answered.... I'm literally sitting here trying to pick music out right now and due to the loss of a coach found out last min with an 8:00 am deadline. :/

I'm pretty sure that if you have written permission, you'd be good to go.

Yes, the covers from unleashthebeats can be fully edited and mixed provided everything that you are mixing it with (sound effects, back beats, voice overs) are all legal.

I do not mix music. I spent hours listening to the library of my music producer and had songs selected. I had my eight count sheets. So please tell me why it took me 7 hours to submit my music order yesterday? Part would be because I was transposing my 8count sheet to theirs and theirs would not save the info (I had already done it the night before, opened it to email and everything was gone). Needless to say, I will never do custom music again. Bring on the premade mixes and then I'll pay to add the sound effects. Oh, and since they're songs no one knows, heaven only knows how they'll mesh together. I'm scared to death to get the final results. Ugh!

If you aren't satisfied with your mix, please contact me. My name is Sully co-owner of cheMIXtry. We accept 8 count sheets how you already have them, and we can use whatever music you would like as long as we can easily obtain the licensing to be compliant. I hope it works out for you though! :)

That sounds rough. I would find a new provider who won't waste your time. Some of my coach friends were telling me about their experiences so far and they haven't had much issue.

Thanks! Last year a friend did our music and we used LegitMix for our show team (i.e. inexpensive but sounded good) and we choreographed to the music. This is the first year doing truly custom and not feeling it. LOL Hopefully I will love the mixes when we get them, but right now it's about a 30 day turnaround.

It's the first year using truly custom music and you wouldn't think transposing 8 count sheets would take that long, but since they don't know the routine, I was probably overly detailed in the comments. LOL

Ok, let me try to make the music licensing as clear as possible (note I did not say clear).

There are two different types of licensing you deal with
1. composers,,I don't care if the song is performed by a famous band or the girl scouts, the composers have to get paid if its a public performance,,when you hear ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, these are the groups nearly all composers belong to,,,the FACILITY should have the license to cover that (but if you post a video on your own website you need to get a license from all 3 to be safe)

2.. The rights holder to a WORK,,if Michael Jackson sings a song, that WORK is owned by the record company or his heirs,,,you can't alter that in any way. Now, if you take the same song but put your own voice and instruments to it, it is a totally new WORK,,then you now have your own WORK,,,and no copyrights are being broken. You can alter it in anyway you want, which is what covers really are.

If you buy a mix from a company and they are USACheer complaint (which simply means they checked them out) AND they give you the right to alter the mix,,,all is good.

What people were doing is buying a song from ITunes and then altering it and using it in a public performance,,,that you can't do. If you buy a song from ITunes, or anywhere else, you have the right to listen to it,,,that's it,,you can't hold a mini concert and charge admission, you can't use it in a commercial, etc etc,,,you are buying the right to use it for personal use,,,so you can listen to it.

There is still a lot of confusion on copyright,,hopefully this will help clear it up
