I was going under the impression that the songs I heard were really good covers but some of them had me shaking my head. One mix included Lady Gaga's "Million Reasons", which was released 34 days ago. In that time someone had the chance to do a perfect cover for a cheer mix and get the appropriate licensing? I'm just confused. I swear, as the years go by I see more and more that makes me ask questions :(

Power music licensing and unleashthebeats.com are two pretty big libraries of cover music. I've been using unleasthbeats and they are cranking out their covers like crazy right now. And yes, I checked, Million Reasons is in their library.

Now, I'm not sure when that song hit their library, and it still had to be mixed into their routine music, so I'm not saying that it was their cover, just that it could be.

yeah, was in Louisville this weekend and I heard a lot of music from well known artists. I somehow really question of some of them granted permission to be used. i.e. Celine Dion. really?
Makes me think this was more of a money grab from Varsity.

I am not a huge fan of everything Varsity. But, what money exactly is Varsity getting out of this? They don't mix music. They don't have their hands in any cover music company (yet). All they were trying to do was cover their butt so they didn't get sued. And really, can you blame them for that?

I can bet the table and say that it was a cover version of Celine Dion, and if not.... their music should have been flagged. It is close to impossible to obtain licenses of the master recordings....ok its IMPOSSIBLE! The company we use for cover music does a great job. At first I thought it was a money grab for Varsity too.... then I quickly realized it is a music industry money grab.

I haven't read the rules I admit, but I'm surprised that covers could be used.

I'd love to hear something other than an electronic sound in people's mixes. I loved Orange and Steel's mixes, but on music in general: if 99% of music has the same sound, we aren't any more unique that we were before the music changes. Steel is the only mix whose sound has been a mixture of electronic and something else (rock). Like, what about dancehall, country, house (esp old school house), oldies (we could definitely an oldies-sounding song w/ today's software), etc.?

Can't forget shooting stars.

At our competition last weekend I questioned the judges about this and they said that they are giving all the teams warnings and a grace period until December. I just feel like if I'm doing everything on the up and up then the teams that aren't following the rules should be penalized!
i agree with this, the entire cheer community is aware of the new music rule, whether they found out from twitter, fierceboard, emails, word of mouth or anything else. you know what the rules are and were well aware of them since before the end of the 2015-16 season, so grace periods are not needed. another thing the cheer community needs to stop doing is baby sitting and giving "chances". we're all grown here and know what we do wrong.

Hey does anyone know where I could find a cheer music playlist? Like on YouTube or something? I wanna use it to work out.
