I was trying to find General Hospital on a Canadian site because it didn't air on the US and saw the commercial, been watching all day.

So far it's more like the TNG than previous seasons all thought this musical they keep trying to push is bizarre.

The final play product gave me so much second hand embarrassment

There's only so many times they can use the 'student writes play with controversial subject' plotline... And it seems like a character gets an abortion in each installment. (Now that I think about it, it seems like they recycle the same general storylines with each new 'class'.)
I am mildly interested to see where they go with the Maya plot.

Hopefully Schitt's Creek is less cringeworthy.

Everything is recycled

Internet safety
Cyber bullying
Abortions
Having the baby
Struggle plays
Songwriting
Bands
Homosexuality
Suicide
Suicide attempts
Cutting

Guess there are only but so many ways you can go there

At the end of the day it's my guilty pleasure and no matter how redundant the episodes get I'll still watch

The Syrian/Muslim storyline is interesting.

I think the majority of that Muslim/Homosexuality/sin story line was a miscommunication and was never that deep.

IRL our Syrian students don't speak a lick of English. But that's whatever.

but wait. This season did lack sports drama, so that's new

And Tristan's TBI was interesting

Captain Who? Or is there a new one?

I believe this is the fourth time. But the writer/director (can't remember) said they try to approach each with a different view - some get them, some don't, some feel remorseful, some are ok with it, etc.

Oops, I was a little off on my count. There's been one in every installment/series but the "Degrassi" (seasons 10-14) one. Each one has been different, at least. (The first one is the reason why I have such an irrational dislike of Liz.)

This one was alllll about the bus crash, and Miles' growing infatuation with Lola.

Well to be fair, an abortion has probably been considered in every installment with not everyone going through with it

Liberty, Jenna, Clare all considered abortions...so while Manny and Lola are the only ones that have gotten them in the reboots, they're still mentioned heavily.

That was the musical that Frankie, Lola, Winston, Zig, and pretty much everybody worked on.

I couldn't stand Becky's singing voice.

Whoops I was on a Degrassi Sabbatical from 2010 (?)-when New Class started. But I can imagine.

Honestly I wished they could've fleshed this storyline out. I think cheating storylines on HS shows to be so interesting because the stakes are low-no kids, no marriages or anything. And this one was so rushed. I actually liked the pairing!

It's so crazy that we have abortion storylines now. I remember Manny's was the huge taboo in the states, and the episode didn't air in cannon so it was kind of like a plot hole. I will say that Lola may be the one character that didn't annoy me during this run. I guess since she's the Manny of this version, I have a soft spot for her.

Sorry to double but a sidenote- I get depression. I know how hard it is. But Maya's storyline was not touching or sad it was just a mess. Like totally off in her own world the entire season.

I wasn't moved by Maya's story line either. It would have been interesting if she'd stolen the keys to a bus, plugged the muffler and sat in it with it running tho

And Lola was my favorite character this season, and I really liked how her decision was handled. Oddly I disliked Shay a great deal. Frankie I've never liked

Scrolling through the Degrassi posts as fast as I can. I'm up to ep 3. Going to watch some more right now.

It's hard though when you've been trying to handle controversial teen issues for 30+ years to come up with completely new and original storylines at this point in the game that haven't been even briefly touched on at some point. They were so cutting edge in DJH days because they were the only show back then that dared to go there (to borrow an old slogan).

I also just feel like what's missing that I loved about the show in the 00s was the storylines threading together. And how some basic plots escalated to the more edgy ones. I loved how we had the Paige/Manny rivalry spilling over into revealing her affair with her teacher. Or how the events leading to the shooting began because Rick had a crush on Emma and the older kids told her to watch out. I think there are too many characters on at this point or so much happening to one single character that nothing seems authentic.

That's why I like one of the plots of this season because it was a realistic progression.

I also don't think the groups of friends weave together organically like on TNG. It's either forced or extremely random

At one point Zoe and Rashka are hiding from Baaz and Zoe says something like "he'll recognize you but not me"

Like Zoe isn't student body president and like Baaz's sister isn't VP

I need to catch up because I haven't seen a bus crash. And Miles strikes me as kind of selfish... and Lola is adorable (and freakishly pretty) but too ditzy for me to imagine her with Miles. I was honestly rooting for Miles and Maya (though homegirl annoys the crap out of me), but Zig and Maya seemed a good couple... are they still together?

BRB gotta go catch up.

I don't wanna spoil anything... But the bus crash was the last episode of season 2 of Next Class. (And no. haven't been for a while now.) I'm starting to like Esme more, now that she's been in more episodes.
Maya strikes me as one of those kids who was always told how smart/unique/special/talented they were when they were younger, and is kind of lost when things happen that may prove otherwise.
When she went through her promiscuous phase after Cam's suicide... it just felt werid to me. The repsonse seemed natural, but I can't see Maya being like that. Like, she acts like she's mature and levelheaded one second, but the next second she wants to do something crazy. Like when she and Zig were at Tiny's house party and she wanted to try ecstasy (had to resist slapping her into a new hair color through the screen LOL) and Zig was freaking out and trying to talk out of it, but her stupid self did it anyway (and so did he, ugh).
