All-Star Why Does This Continue To Happen?

Just because the packet says they are supposed to pay X-amount doesnt mean the families actually paid it.

My first gym was a very small gym and people not paying tuition happened constantly. They would pay for comp fees but "couldn't find money" for monthly tuition. When the owner started cancelling competitions those same people would be the most surprised. "But we paid our comp fees!" Thats great but you're 3 months behind on tuition and the money went to gym fees instead. You don't get to dictate what expenses are paid when you are behind.

No sense in kicking those people off the team because there was no one to replace them in the gym and the team would have to be disbanded. Those people were not allowed to come back the next season and debt collectors then took over.

IMO, the gym owners side to this story is completely relevant. There are a handful of scenarios like this that could happen that could make a gym owner decide to pull a team from a competition last minute. And instead of airing other people's business on the local news the gym owner replied with no comment. Obviously he could be totally scamming families, but I know that people don't always live up to their end of agreements and then play victim when they didn't get what they wanted.
I don't normally disagree with you, but in the case you are referencing (if I am reading correctly) several people who paid did not get what they paid for. If they were to get a full refund of the competition fees that the gym did not attend, that would be fine. Unfortunate for the kids to miss out on competition, but at least the business would be operating legally. However, to take funds that were paid by customers and use them for other purposes and then tell those customers who paid 100% "sorry, you get nothing" is not only unethical, but illegal.

In my example, those who did pay 100% everything, their fees were bumped to the next comp's fees. (Like if comp 1's fees were paid but trip was cancelled/owner didn't pay to attend comp, comp 2's fees would be covered by comp 1's fees.)

Unless you are referencing the GT story which I am choosing not to comment about because there are very little facts presented. It's just a "he-said-she-said" story at this point.

A parent posted this in the comments of the WSB-TV facebook page that did a story on this. This is supposedly his side of the story. I cannot verify it 100%. But it was posted on the page.

If I paid my kid's tuition and fees on time and was holding up my end of the deal, I would be livid. Thankfully, Atlanta is a big city and the parents who are paying have other options for next year. The losers in all of this are the kids. I hope they are somehow able to make it to cheersport.

It's horrible for the kids. I just don't think GT did enough researching when it came to taking over C4, or they were presented with incorrect/incomplete info. There have been numerous types of serious problems there over the last few years causing mass exedous of athletes and coaches.

There are always 3 sides to every story. Ill wait for the facts to come out. Having said that, you can't just go fund $20k and roll up to Cheersport with your cash in a duffle bag, sporting your GT uniform representing a gym you claim has scammed you, who handles the warmups/starting the music/release forms, etc.....because John Doe random parent isn't getting into warmups. There are background checks needed to get backstage now a days so is there a coach egging them on? (I know varsity prefers to deal in cash for parent entrance $$ so maybe they can do that too:.....)

Yea, I've seen that. But that really only mentions teams that are eligible for D2 bids, not who can compete D2 at other comps. It doesn't make any sense to me why a team would want to compete D2 when they can't get a bid though.
What gym are you referring to?

I chuckled at the image of a parent walking into Cheersport with $20k in a duffle bag. [emoji23]

And now we wait as Hunger Games: Cheer Edition commences as parents start tracking down the non-paying parents as retribution.
