Hey everyone!

As a lot of you may know I am a young adult fiction author and I write books about all star cheerleading. I am in the process of writing book 4, and have some odd specific questions about Worlds that I was wondering if I can ask people. If you don't want to post answers here but would be willing to message me that would be a big help. I want to make sure I represent the sport as true to life as possible, so that means getting even the small details correct.

Here are the questions I'm looking to hear more about:
-Can you arrive to Worlds before the Wednesday check in date listed on official info?
-I'm assuming most teams practice at the Worlds Village every day, but is there also practice set up at a local gym? Is that something gym set up or do Worlds help with that?
-Are certain days "park days" for most people?
-Are there special events that most teams are there for?

I have a good bit of info and material and things like that, but sometimes I like to go right to the source when I can for additional answers. Vlogs and documentaries only give so much info after all! haha

Thanks everyone in advance!

You can arrive whenever you want, though I believe USASF offers only 3, 4 or 5 day park hoppers for athletes, so you wouldn't be staying as an athlete. ICU is actually starting up the weekend before Worlds, so most of the athletes there will be participating in ICU, starting WEd/Thurs night. On a side note, pretty much every Canadian team attends to watch/cheer on ICU, and very few US teams, so it's pretty crazy with Canadians on the Friday night.

Most teams will practice on the Football field at the All-Star sports resort at some point. Many also book in rental time with local gyms, or you can rent time on the warmup mats at Worlds too. That's all arranged privately by gyms on their own.

Most teams will compete Sat (US/Cdn trials for Intl. divisions, Day 1 for Senior divisions). Sun is Day 2 (Semi's) and Mon is Finals. Our free day is usually Thurs (either for parks or arriving), or Monday if we don't make finals. With lots of teams out after Sat, I'm sure many go to the parks after. I've never competed in trials, being IO6, so Saturday is always a practice day for us as we don't compete till Sunday

No real special events I can think of. There is a Block Party at Hollywood Studios Park Monday night for all athletes. And usually there is a lot of partying at the Piano pool at All-Star Music Resort, but not something I would suggest letting your main character go to, unless she was going to get in a lot of trouble for it. Unfortunately there is a lot of underage drinking and partying that does go on, so there is that, depending on what your character experiences through your series.

I hope this is a good start. I'm sure others will have more to add

to vicariously live out the worlds experience I would really recommend watching the worlds episodes of Cheerleaders, it follows cali smoed and how/where they practice, the places they go during worlds, etc. also, they have really great NCA experience episodes.

I've watched most episodes of at least three times. Not to mention a few vlogs on YouTube and things of that nature. But things that are edited are never going to give me all the details. Hence the thread here! :)

THANK YOU!!! This was super helpful! I appreciate your willingness to help! The info about the gyms is especially helpful since I have a scene I'm planning to write later this week that might need to be changed a little thanks to that info. Trying to see how I can work it out to have the desired effect in the end. Thanks again!

Most level five teams practice until the Thursday before Worlds and travel on Friday, especially if there's a time change. They may stay later than Monday to go to the parks. Our gym practices at local gyms instead of all star resorts. All stars tend to be too much of a distraction.
Hope that helps

Thanks! That's really good to know info about the distractions, and actually something that will be helpful for a scene I am adding.

Okay. Random other question. Does the worlds village have meals included? Is there breakfast included? Or room service?. Anything like that? I've been trying to look these things up but it's hard for someone who doesn't have a bid or isn't a coach to find all the info easily! haha

Not sure about room service, as I've never looked into it, but I believe it exists, at least for pizza delivery. There are cafeteria style restaurants on site at each of the 3 all-star resorts. All food is bought there (and Mickey waffles are very popular). No food is included that I have ever heard of. On another note, lots of athletes buy the Disney travel cup there, which you can refill for cheap/free (can't remember - I don't usually get it) on site.

You are a life saver! Thank so much!

Not so much the cheer part of it because it's been a minute since I've been to Disney for cheer, but if you have questions about the hotels/food etc look at allears.net. Menus, pricing, pics of any and everything at the hotels, so much more. Here's the fact sheet for Sports, but this site has everything you could need about Disney. All Star Sports Fact Sheet

Thank you so much!!! That is the perfect resource for sure!

Nothing is included at Disney, you pay for everything (except transportation to the parks from the Disney hotels). There are meal plans that can be purchased in advance but otherwise everything especially at All-Stars is a la carte. You can look at the Worlds packet to see prices for rooms and that may give you some insight; it's on the USASF website.
Remember too that not only cheerleaders are at All-Stars during Worlds; its still open to anyone who wants to stay there. It's not like the Olympic Village where only athletes stay. I always felt bad for families on vacation who suddenly found themselves surrounded by swarms of cheerleaders who take over the dining hall and the pools. Additionally not all teams stay there because it can be a crazy scene.

Our teams are told, by coaches, no parks/pools until after kids are done competing. They'll try to keep them together practicing or doing group things as much as possible. We'll stay a few days after Monday if we want to use hopper passes and go to parks.

Here is my CP's World's experience.

They fly as a team Thursday. The team and coaches stay in what the kids call a mansion, its a gorgeous house stocked full of food with 2 kids to a room, game room, movie theatre, pool ect. Friday morning they go for a team run and then they practice at an all star gym set up by our coaches and then they all go back to the house and cook a team dinner that they dress up for, take pictures and eat. Since we have had paid bids and compete on Sunday they use Saturday to go to a park as a team. They do get to relax by the pool a bit and then it is a team movie, phones are taken away and early bed time. Sunday is business and hopefully so is Monday!

We don't do the World's village, the all star or any of the events :)
