All-Star Worlds Questions/interviews

Our teams are told, by coaches, no parks/pools until after kids are done competing. They'll try to keep them together practicing or doing group things as much as possible. We'll stay a few days after Monday if we want to use hopper passes and go to parks.

I would assume those rules are in place for this very reason.... my first year at worlds (I was a Jr. so the team was young with not very much parent supervision) was in 2009. Our whole team had a 'pool day' on the friday of ICU ... and a large chunk of our team was burnt to a crisp for competition the next day. Not fun to catch a double down with a sun burn!

Such a good point!!!!! I'm totally tempted to add that idea in my books somewhere, but I think just because there has to be at least a few readers who will relate thanks to misshapes! haha

Does anyone have a map of where the Worlds Village in comparison to the parks? Also are there shuttles between the two? or is that something teams rent? Thanks!

Google All-Star resorts. That's where many of the athletes stay because it is the cheapest lodging at Disney.

Buses run from All-Stars to all of the parks and WWOS. If you are staying on property those are free.

I feel you are misunderstanding the idea of a "Worlds Village"

USASF (contract through Varsity as f the last time I saw it) runs the competition of Worlds. They do that at ESPN Wide World of Sports - a Disney property. Like many youth sports events, the organizers also contract room "deals" (it depends on what side of paying the bill you are on if it's a deal or not) with Disney. So a large portion of the Worlds athletes stay at the All Star Resort complex. It's really like a large motel complex with Disney theme all around. The complex is broken up into Sports, Music, and Movies major sections and each section has a big pool and themed hang out areas. In between two of the sections (I think Music and Sports, but someone correct me if I'm wrong) there is a big Worlds reception tent, merchandise sales tent and that's where the buses pick you up and drop off to go direct to the competition venue. These are private contract buses, not part of the Disney bus system so they only go back and forth between the resort and the venue. Participants with Disney park-hoppers can always take the Disney bus system as well to travel anywhere within the Disney resort.

So there really isn't a Worlds Village like I feel you are describing. Sounds like you are envisioning the Olympic Village or something like that. The All Star Resort and Wide World of Sport do get overrun with cheerleaders for 2 weeks though. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, but I was just using the wrong term for the sport resort. I think I started using it while writing since I didn't want to reuse the same phrase too many times so I'll have to look back and revise that as needed. I know it's not like the Olympic village though, just used the term winces it shorter and mixes up the repetitive verbiage.

Yeah, I got understand the terms and the locations and things of that nature. As I said I didn't want to use the same phrase over and over and hence used the word Worlds Village. I know the official way people refer to it, I just don't like being repetitive in my writing. It makes it less exciting for my readers, so as long as I can make sure they understand that it's a nickname a character gives the area or a slang for the full term then it will allow me to vary the conversation and descriptions in chapters that take place during Worlds.
