Melnikova looks so worn out. They need to let her rest
I swear they're trying to exhaust her to death... she's been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury since before Rio and hasn't taken a break since Rio.

Same with Oleg... he hasn't taken a break since Rio. Someone sponsor him so he doesn't have to keep relying on prize money to feed himself. This is the least important year of the quad anyway building up to 2020, if gymnast are going to take an extended break to recover it should be this year.

True. There's no need to go all out this year specially for those who took part in Rio. Now should be their time to rest and let those nagging injuries heal completely. Melka is so tired that doing a full twisting double back on bars almost made her fell on her face.

Ncaa nationals are happening now and Magie Nichols fell on beam so AA ncaa champion title is gone for her :( :( She was doing so well all season and than just fell on her last event on last tuck before dismount.

MyKayla Skinner is leading aa for now but seasion 2 (with Alabama, LSU, Florida) hasn't started yet.

Y'all I just read a great book that I think a lot of you would like: 'The End of the Perfect 10' by Dvora Meyers.

Primarily focuses on the pursuit of the perfect score, but basically functions as an in-depth history of gymnastics, from around the age of Nadia to just before Rio. And there's some great stuff about the reasons behind the new US dominance of the sport.

So gutted for Mags. I know she has 3/4 more years to grab the National AA title but it's still heartbreaking. Such an uncharacteristic fall after a record breaking season for her. Glad she at least got to share the bars title.

And go Kyla grabbing two individual titles in bars and beam. Obviously she's an olympic gymnast and those two events were always her strengths, but I feel like she wasn't all that highlighted at UCLA this season... I wouldn't call her an underdog at all but that kind of what her wins feel like lol

friggen Maggie. Beam fall knocks her out of all-around and then she gets a 10.0 on beam in team finals. I love her more every meet.

Just F.Y.I., the European Championships are happening this week in Cluj, Romania. The men's QF just got done today, women's QF are tomorrow.

This is the first major international competition this quad, it'll give you a rough idea who could be in contention for medals at Worlds this year.

The Ponor thing - did she knowingly miss the front tumbling skill? Or was it accidental?

I've never followed her routines so I'm not sure what all the facts are regarding the situation at Europeans??

It's hard to tell, but during podium training she bailed on the punch front layout and performed a front handspring instead after her 2 1/2. She fell on the same tumbling line at a recent World Cup event as well... clearly front tumbling isn't her thing.

I guess we'll never know if she made a calculated risk and felt it was better to receive a penalty of having her D-score reduced for missing a requirement over attempting the skill itself.

I don't blame Ponor at all, the judges however... what were they thinking? She would've still (miraculously) made finals with the reduced D-score anyway, so I don't know why they felt the need to inflate her score.

ETA: Ooops... I can't math properly in the middle of the night, she would've missed finals by 0.1 had they taken out the CR. Which, by the way, they just did. So no floor finals for Ponor.

Thanks!
Yeah the judging part seemed strange to me, especially to be still debating it 30 mins after the final rotation had finished? I don't think there was any debate for the judges to even have as she didn't do the skills, it wasn't an execution issue.

Super proud to be British! Our GB men's team were all inexperienced on the international stage, with no members from our Olympic team, James Hall goes out there and gets a bronze medal in the AA at Europeans and Joe Fraser, eighteen years of age and first time senior finished in 5th. So much potential! Crazy to see the depth of our teams.

Super excited for Ellie Downie today, after having a storming qualifications yesterday, qualifying for every event final and AA in first, the first British women to do so, I hope she can continue the success on today! Come on Ellie

And now she's European AA champ!! My nerves are all over the place haha.

I am SO excited to see what the next couple of years holds for British gymnastics!
