At one point things were released late, but I can't keep track of all of it. LOL

I am definitely looking forward to seeing everything on Feb. 15. Hopefully, someone will share it on fierceboard. So far, the information I have is just hear say and could be false.

This proposal sounds like it was created by a bitter cheer mom who daughter is no longer a flyer not by a governing body of industry professionals.
Hmmm, perhaps that is the same mom who insisted her daughter is too good for J5 and should be on a Worlds team as young as possible? I do sympathize with them as I am sure it is difficult for those kids to move down to levels 3 or 4 to learn how to base at a high level or possibly they leave their gym at that age to seek a gym where they can stay in the air...

The new scoring rubric allows for lesser stunt groups to max out so I don't think that's the case. All of my best bases were once flyers and I don't think that's a coincidence. Its very rare for any athlete to flyer their entire career, I have been trying to make this a point to my girls and their parents to soften the inevitable 'blow'. Which is silly because no one should be exclusively any position (this is all for the girls who swear they can only main base too) you do whatever the team needs you to do.

I saw Debbie Love speak about the reasons why the ages need to be raised. I wish I had a video of it. She is a very respected professional in the Cheer industry. Her daughter's are now in College and older. The rule in no way effects her own children.

What points did she make?

@Jonathan Brouillette are there specific talents that I am missing that she can only use on a Worlds team? Ones that she can not use on a Junior 5 team?

I do agree using the same age calendar would be nice and help with consistency,

One thing to note, if there isn't consistency in how cheer age is determined and Worlds age increases to the goal of 14 but international stays the same, an athlete will be eligible for international before Worlds..

I caught that earlier and agree that doesn't make sense.

J5 and Worlds are same skillset, unless she is on J5R.

Also note, there is also a discussion to bring J5s back to Worlds with the same people making the decision to increase the Worlds age. The J5s that were at summit last season were all better than most all of the at large Worlds teams. If this happens gyms will all end up with better J5 teams than Worlds teams. Talented motivated kids will have 4 to 5 years on J5 and average less than 3 on Worlds especially kids with birthdays after August 31st.

I haven't heard anything about j5 being moved back to Worlds from industrial professionals or coaches. I have only heard parents that hope that happens.

Worlds teams will adjust and continue to be awesome! J5 getting stronger and more popular is exciting!

Yes agree! I've seen that as well and think it is great. Hopefully they were also able to adjust immediately to level 5 basing? Not much standing in the corner or just tumbling until they had level 5 basing skills? Would hope my dd will adjust well to that role but we are not there yet.

Great! Fully support that.

Yes, it has been discussed frequently how much more difficult it is to receive a Summit bid compared with a Worlds bid.

The J5 teams at summit are mostly from gyms that field elite worlds teams. I think it would be great to grow J5 as a division and even with this impacting my CP I don’t see it necessary for her to go to Worlds 6-7 times. I don’t understand why many parents seem to have this goal. I understand that people will be upset either way and although it is a complicated issue I think that an increase in the minimum age is necessary.

So what would be different in someone going to summit 6-7 years verses worlds (and getting a worlds bid is actually easier)? Also if j5 moved to worlds...well then cp would still be going 6 times if she started at 12. Just some food for thought. She will end up at Disney for 8 plus years regardless if they change worlds age or not. But again, in reality what percentage of 10 year olds have the skills to be on a level 5 team? I guess I just don't understand changing the world's bottom age when most of the reasoning for this as a good idea is about younger ones being on a senior team. Why not just raise the senior age to 12 across the board??

Personally I don’t understand your rush to have her on a Worlds team, or feeling it’s fly or die. But those are fortunately your issues and not mine. Imho which you’ll most likely disregard anyway, let her enjoy cheer as a young teen, be a leader on a junior 5 team, and maybe even become a little more versatile over the next few years. But what do I know.
