We are stoning our comp uniforms ourselves this year to keep the look/colour consistent. Really beautiful, reflective rhinestuds for the crest, sleeves and skirt. However, I’m worried they will clash with the sequins that’s already on their warmups. For example, will it look tacky for them to have sequins on the backs of their jackets and rhinestuds on their skirts poking out from underneath? Or will anyone even notice/care? My OCD would love to know. Thanks.

I hope to all that is reasonable on this earth that you’re not talking about a high school uniform.

Kinda. It’s an allstar-style uniform we won from Rebel Athletic awhile back in a promotional deal. Similar to this HS team in Lexington:

Lexington State Cheer 2014

The girls love the flash, but were a bit unnerved when they showed up to UCA in them for the first time and every other team favoured clean, collegiate designs instead.

the judges will care that your uni has stones on them at all. let the warmups be flashy if they and you want.

you are there to compete in an athletic competition not an artistic performance, stones aren't needed to help keep your stunts in the air.

I know. We just love sparkles in our area. And, right or wrong, the girls feel exponentially more confident when they feel their uniforms can offer something others don’t, like an extra bit of panache that acknowledges the performative side of cheer. So no, it won’t affect our stunts or scores, but if I can foster some confidence in some of the girls by throwing some glitter at them, fine.

Plus, if they don’t have sparkles on their uniforms like the dance team has on theirs, I will never. Hear. The. End. Of. It.

ETA: we suffer the endless misfortune of having navy blue as the primary colour in our uniforms, aka The Color of Every Comp Mat Ever Made. We need something to literally set us apart from the background color at Nationals when it comes to the judges’ sightline. It’s the same reason why the dance team switched from metallic gold poms to white, even though it seemed counterintuitive from a flashiness perspective: the gold did not stand out from the blonde ballroom floor they were performing on.

We have sparkles so I totally get it. We have more of an all star look, but it's because we have more of an all star competition feel and schedule that supports this.

If you are thinking anyone will notice between warm ups and uniforms, they won't-I promise. We have mixed all kinds of crap between the two and it's always been fine! We have a glitter appliqué thing on our current warm ups and a super sparkle uniform, and it never occurred to anyone they didn't go together (except me because I'm the coach and everything that doesn't match drives me crazy).

Thanks so much! That helps a lot. A lot is weighing on this sparkle decision because we reuse/loan out our uniforms every year so if I make a decision I’m ultimately unhappy with (like mismatched pieces or shoddy sequins), it literally haunts me for at least the next five years.
