No. The team stays together at a STP hotel, and my partner & I will grab a room wherever we have the most points.

I LOVE NCA!!!

Per hotel executive friend:

There are only a small percentage of rooms designated in each hotel for discount websites, military discounts, points, AAA, etc. The remainder of room pricing is left to an algorithm based on hotel reservation activity or can be negotiated for block pricing. The entire hotel industry is now linked together in communication and can tell within minutes unusually high reservation activity in a large area and drives up prices on discount and hotel sites quickly. The STP debate is "fend for yourself" or "fend as a community" driven and she said if they did not block those hotels, the prices would go much higher. A housing hotel broker's job is to use their population numbers to drive down the prices from what normal "fend for yourself" pricing would be in high supply and demand circumstances, and "yes" just like any broker they get a commission for booking those rooms. She also said the hotel industry would much rather take on a Coca Cola, Microsoft, Apple, etc. convention where they just block the rooms and send them a check versus a cheer comp where people move and cancel their reservations often, and they don't get paid until check out (which is why some demand a portion upfront and/or a certain amount of days). Housing is held to a contract, and if they don't make the numbers or let go of the unreserved rooms by a certain date, they have to pay, so "yes" they do track reservations by athlete.....and, by several other things the hotel industry, and every large industry, can track your activity by.

We can argue, debate, and hate STP all we want, but if these cities don't get the money they want upfront or guaranteed via hotel tax, food/drink, etc, cheer won't get the convention center dates or cities they want. Cheer event dates have been moved, as well as event cities, over cheer losing out to other events. While some will call this "defending STP", it's just acknowledging we are in a technology age and cheer is fighting for specific dates at some of the most popular convention centers in the US.
