What do you guys think about this new policy about firing HIV-positive people from the military?
Trump is now turning his attention to purging all HIV-positive soldiers from the military / Queerty
In February 2018, the DOD released a policy directed towards nondeployable service members, i.e., those who have been nondeployable for more than 12 consecutive months would be processed for administrative separation or evaluated for disability. The policy exempts pregnant and postpartum service members as well as war wounded service members. The policy also provides for waivers. Difficult to argue the policy is discriminatory on its face.

ehh, there is a lot missing from this specific article about the policy tbh. But I think it comes down to the government not wanting to pay for HIV status members long term medications and medical bills. Or at least thats what im interpreting it as.
I'd be much happier if the U.S. Department of Defense didn't spend upward of $41 million on Viagra, rather than taking funds for what can be a life threatening virus.

The military is an occupation that can include violence in environments with limited medical personnel, medications and equipment. <<<Basically, the answer my daughter got when she asked why she couldn't enroll with a bleeding disorder that's under control. Currently, members that contract HIV are put on non-deploy/non-sea status which, bottom line, works until it doesn't. Short term and small population, you can find positions for those members. Long term and a growing population, you can't fill positions based on medical condition over training and need.

Sorry for the double post, but I fact checked that number since it was thrown around in the media so much and it's actually $84 million. Viagra is $41.8 million, but the generic counterparts are another $42 million. But, I also did the math and Viagra and it's counterparts are $45 per pill, so that $84 million equates to 1.88 million pills. So, out of our 24 million vets, active duty, and reserve, only 7.8% of them would get 1 pill per year, that includes our disabled and those psychologically affected from war. My heart goes out to every single member of our troops. Government funding is what it is, but perhaps a better question is why can't our bazillion dollar drug companies do better for all of our troops? :(

I’m looking into gluten free products. What would you look for or not in the ingredients list when buying pasta? Any brands do you like? Or recommend? Any info on gluten free products?

I really like Udi's! And I do a lot of baking with coconut and almond flour now. I've had trouble with GF pasta. Rice pasta is okay but doesn't taste like the real thing I'm trying a new brand of GF pasta this week if it's good I'll let you know. I have a gluten sensitivity that was just diagnosed so I'm also in the process of finding good products.

I have also had problems with most GF pasta (except Spaghetti--I'll have to look at the brand tomorrow when I get home and can check my pantry because I didn't even realize it was GF until I went to make more!), because it always just ends up turning to mush.

If you start eating a lot of GF breads, just be mindful that the sugar content is usually a lot higher. And, when I first tried to bake with coconut(?) flour, I ended up dumping in way too much butter to try and make it more doughy/less dry, that it was definitely not healthy lol. I've gotten a little better at figuring substitutions out, but it definitely takes some experimenting.

If you have Giant/Martins, they have awesome GF bagels. I actually prefer them over Udis. They're branded Nature's Promise, but I'm not sure if you can get them anywhere but those grocery stores/how nation-wide they are. They also don't come frozen, which I think is a big reason I prefer them, but they mold pretty quickly.

Thanks for the tip! I don't have Giant but maybe my parents do!

I finally remembered to look in my pantry...the spaghetti brand is Ronzoni. I'm sure they have other pastas, but they are definitely the best GF spaghetti noodles I've found!

@TealShades
Ronzoni brand is very good. If you have Aldi grocery stores nearby - they have a good gluten free selection of packaged items (crackers, etc).

So I was looking up cheerleading careers for my project (check in the allstar thread) and I came across this assocation/federation called Champion Force Athletics? Are they like an off-brand of USASF? Never heard of them before and got interested to dig more into what they are because I'm really confused about what it actually is.

Probably is a similar org to the NASC which is a 'group' under USA Cheer that doesn't actually exist. It exists on paper to give uca and nca a stronger positioning on the Board and for voting. Shameful.

Wouldn't be surprised if Champion Force Athletics is like that too. I haven't ever heard of it personally, but also haven't gone looking for it.
