I’m on my schools varsity cheer squad and next Friday is pep rally (a week from today...eek). I’m getting put into the routine (rn I’m an alternate) on Monday because one of my friends is getting surgery that day and she’s one of the 4 tumblers so I wanted to replace one of her passes with a Robhs. The only problem is I sort of have a mental block. I can do them if a coach is standing there on a spring floor but if the coach moves I usually can’t do it but I’ve been getting better and I personally think i can do it. Is it reasonable with two tumbling classes plus a possible additional private to go from a small little mental block on spring floor to dead mat? Especially in a week? Thanks in advance

Possible...yes

But I predict disaster for you. Your coach should not put you in a position to perform a skill that you are not 100% comfortable doing with such short notice. I wouldn’t even let my athlete try. Too much stress over something that is a minor part of the performance. After all, it doesn’t sound like you’re going to be the only one not tumbling on a team that has a “squad skill.”

Yes. But you have to be determined. You have to see past the goal of the performance and see how your success in acquiring the skill will make you a better cheerleader. You are stronger and more powerful than some silly mental block, climb over it/blast through it, dive under it, you got it

Yes, it’s possible, but if your coach is smart, they will pull that skill unless you’re hitting it 9.5/10 times in these next 2 practices. You can’t think you can do it, you have to know without a doubt that you can do it, and I rarely see kids push past that mental level in 1 week with this kind of pressure on them. Good luck to you
