I am looking for a resource that can help me with types of competitions. We are a very small high school squad. We have 10 girls with basically no competition experience. We arent allowed to stunt and we have 2 girls who can do a bhs and 1 with advanced tumbling(she was a higher lever gymnast until she was 14). We are looking for a competition series in Ohio that would be fitting for our skill level. Our head coach was a college cheerleader and competed in allstar cheer. She wants to take the girls to competitions but not familiar types that dont allow stunting. If anyone has information or can direct me where to go to find it, I would greatly appreciate it!

many of the major competition brands (UCA, NCA, USA) for school teams offer a non-building division.

(your coach should know about these)

from there you can find local/regional competitions to attend. that being said, the school season is coming to a close sooner than later (mid feb), especially if you are in Ohio/East Coast. West Coast typically goes into late March.

But that is typically for teams that compete regularly, but could be good for your girls to see. I would recommend finding local all star competitions and cheer showcases that you and the coach can sign up your team for. Not all will offer a non building division but most of the time it wont be about the score anyways and will be about having a good performance. Should be fairly cheap too.

The coach doesn’t know. She has asked me to research it. We were registered for a UCA game day competition and it was canceled. So we have a routine and no place to compete it. Is it too late to register for one now?

Be weary of that coach. To me that sets off major alarms and red flags.

In response to your question, yes it may be too late. All depends on what other UCA Game Day competitions are still happening.
Here is a way to search for the Varsity brand competitions: https://www.myvarsity.com/CompetitionSearch

Why be weary?

I appreciate your information. There weren’t any other game day competition within 200 miles of us. Maybe will have to wait until next year. Thank you again!

Proceed with caution with any coach who pursues something without making the effort to educate his/herself. In this particular situation, I'd be worried that the coach would:

1. Enter the team in an inappropriate division
2. Misunderstand or not even research the score sheet
3. Waste your time and money by taking the team to a competition and doing numbers 1 & 2.

Oh. Well she is new and I am her assistant. We work together. We have started from scratch. She has worked her tail off to get the girls confident enough to even want to compete. I am just better at research. I will find the links and she will read through them and make the choice and then make sure the girls are meeting the requirements. I see your point though. Cheer is different in our area. In the past, we have had coaches that didnt care at all. Last coach was more concerned about being part if hs drama. Didnt know anything about cheer.

I totally misread and thought that you were a parent. It makes MUCH more sense that you're the assistant coach. Duh.
