Right!!

wouldn't be the first time they have done so. when they do stuff like that or like last year where they didn't acknowledge or broadcast either partner stunt comp at uca/nca, its all with the goal of Olympics in mind.

think about how small coed adds another complicated layer to understanding competitive cheer, whereas just having all girl and large coed, it is more black and white (obviously still complicated lol cuz duh cheer)
Ugh. Varsity is the worst.

Cheer will always be complicated because it's one of the only college sports (maybe the only) with males and females competing on the same team. It will never be less complicated unless they remove males all together.

And their reason for doing so, from what I heard via hearsay is.. "we don't have enough talented boys to compete large."

Which essentially kills D1 as a competitive division now. Upsetting UCA/Varsity so much that there have been discussions for removing Small Coed altogether in the future..
If they are so upset they should encourage boys to stay in the sport. All star teams are having trouble keeping boys in the sport too, and the focus is nearly completely on tumbling which doesn't translate well to college cheer. Most colleges with coed teams are begging for guys and taking them off the streets with no experience. Having progressions in stunting through the levels for coed teams and having coed stunts count on the score sheet would encourage gyms to teach coed stunting. Currently it seems it's not even a consideration until you get to the worlds level and the stunts required to get into range are too hard for the boys to do.

I know someone was looking for dance results. I can post if I have a minute. I have not been watching dance (mostly because my ability to comment on dance is basically "oh wow that was pretty or what a pretty costume.")

I’m clearing out a quiet space in my house and putting my dogs outside so I shan’t be distracted.

many hs cheer guys go cheer in college. i have noticed as you have that a lot of all star guys don't go cheer.

AS doesn't currently translate well to college in most places. Change of skill work and change of culture overall would help, if that is the direction *they* want to with their industry view of the sport

Unfortunately large coed is dying in HS. Eight teams in the whole division last year, I believe.

If they want to keep guys around, they have to change the image of all star cheer from flamboyant to athletic, and reward true, unassisted coed skills.

College athletic programs do not want their image to be males with wild, multi-colored hair styles, skin-tight bedazzled uniforms, and pelvic thrusting.

UCA coed style does not reward coed skills with an assist. Colleges aren’t able to recruit 6th graders like these all star kids are accustomed to lifting.

So you take an all star boy out of the all star world, and give him an adult female in the 80th percentile for height and weight, take away his assist, and suddenly he’s pretty much useless in a college routine where tumbling is a second thought, and jumps/dance don’t even exist.

He can go cheer for an NCA program, but IMHO, that’s like going to play in the minor leagues. I mean let’s be honest....NCA nationals has an intermediate level??? WTF is that?

But unfortunately, UCA does not have an intermediate division. BTW, did you guys see Kentucky's routine? Absolutely amazing!

Thankfully, UCA doesn’t have an intermediate division.

Why would you have an intermediate division at a collegiate competition?

NCA nationals is to college cheerleading what the NIT is to college basketball. A second-rate competition that a minority of people really care about.
