Oh look, another Varsity year end event for youth and rec teams

Gotta book up that new venue ;)

Another thing that was predicted years ago that was denied. It was bound to happen. They are a business and they don't want their businesses diversifying into anything that they can't make money off. We say All Star is too expensive, they don't make it less expensive but they come up with a way to cut into the cheerleading business they once said (many many years ago) they wanted no part of.

I predicted this in another thread too, a YOUTH and MINI based bid event.

@all4sarah it's not allstar, Varsity's website describes the division breakdown:

I see they are trying to cast the widest net possible with no age minimums, S 18 and under, J 14 and under etc. Can't wait to see what the qualifying events are and WHERE they are...more stay to play?

Please no! Having a separate event in that way would be so difficult for families with multiple children who cheer, coaches being away for Worlds and Summit already, etc.

This is really depressing. So many people are shouting from the rooftops about the direction of the sport and instead of being introspective and responding to customer needs Varsity just doubles down to expand the concept.

I can't speak for other areas, but our largest rec/youth football program closed in 2016. I spoke to one of the parents that coached for them and they said the expense and concussion awareness dramatically decreased their enrollment. They had an incredible rec cheer program that unfortunately was lost in the process. Many of those rec parents could find another youth football program, but the rec cheer parents said they couldn't find another competition rec cheer program and most were sideline only. Does anyone know if this is a trend across the US?

I said it in another thread, but the direction of youth sports is now government driven. If you want to use their facilities, you are going to have to cough up some hotel usage (STP) which is how they gauge the success of these sport parks and convention centers. This is not just Varsity, this is the face of youth sports across the board.

But in this case, depending on what these Quest events are, it would be Varsity's choice. They could make the qualifying events local competitions where these teams already compete, state tournaments (perhaps attending a certain number or placement at the events), etc or will they create new events that require travel and bid chasing?

Well I see rec i.e. Pop Warner teams on there. But I am starting to wonder how saturated the youth market has become in terms of cheerleading. I know with tiny/mini teams they tend to compete a bit more locally but I notice that youth teams are running around the country to NCA/UCA as much as worlds caliber teams. Is this turning parents off when they're made to take these long trips before the child turns 10?

That rule about every kid must cheer every game...good luck with that one.

How are you going to prove it ain’t so?

Plus my experience with Rec everything has been one of poor attendance and lack of commitment overall.

Definitely their choice to get into the rec/youth program biz, but needing facilities for cheer comps would still be a dilemma if they can't cough up enough hotel stays (STP) to get a venue. I was speaking to a soccer parent and the local sport park strives first to get out of town tournaments, because they bring in more revenue than local teams. Sad, but this is where youth sports are right now.
