After the events at Jamfest Northern in Blackpool yesterday I just wanted to give a massive shout out to how kind and compassionate the rest of my team mates and coaches are and how fortunate I am to be part of an amazing programme. Our coaches and Senior 1 team gained the Spirit Award for most supportive programme and I’m over the moon with this. Cheerleading is first and foremost about treating athletes with respect and dignity, and about fostering good sportsmanship in every athlete. These athletes are exemplary and deserve to know that. I feel this is even more important to say after our Senior 2 were on the receiving end of some pretty poor behaviour from another team during their awards session. Despite a low placing and being treated poorly all of these girls remained incredibly supportive and kind to other athletes, which shows that they are a credit to their coaches and programme as a whole.

This is the result of a lot of falling and getting up to try again. Proud as heck of her courage and tenacity, and so grateful for this sport that builds those qualities in our kids. Last year she got to go to Gen Next as an alternate. Crossing my fingers for her that she gets picked this year.

My kid has been plagued by injuries this year. Nothing major, just lots of knee and ankle stuff. As a result, her tumbling sort of tapered off and she lost a lot of confidence. We randomly went to an open gym at a new gym and she met a new coach and asked to do some private lessons with him. He took her all the way back to her roundoff and found a bunch of tiny form breaks that he thinks were causing her injuries and pain. (Including one foot where her toe would point out!) Five weeks later and her tumbling looks better than it ever has and her pain is far better! It’s been hard having to relearn everything, but I am so happy to see her excited and feeling good again and I think she’s going to go back to progressing quickly instead of stalling out. Form matters!!!

Bringing this thread back because I got a new coaching gig about a month ago!! (Hubs & I moved across the state and had to leave my old program)
I coach 5 allstar teams across two locations and one of our coaches was actually mine when I was in high school. Everything happens for a reason!! Feeling super grateful.

I went to my first NT practice on Sunday. I'm a little self conscious about my age (27) and skill level (competed level 3, played around with level 4/5 in open gyms and stunt classes) but my heart is all in and I'm excited to have this opportunity to shimmy on the mat again.

I've joined an open team at 33 with no previous experience.
I see what you mean about the excitement, I'm coming home going "ahhhhhhh :D" after practice.

Yes! I came out of a 4 year retirement and joined a L6NT this year at the ripe old age of 26. Getting my stretches back to an acceptable level might be a struggle though :help:

My husband is 36 and is on a very competitive IOLC6 team. Up until 3 years ago, he had no tumbling or cheer experience. Our daughter’s old gym (she used to do AS but she’s now a competitive gymnast) had an adult tumbling class and that’s where he got started. I am so proud of him.

But you guys definitely aren’t the oldest on the mat!
