With the current level 5 becoming level 6 will those worlds athletes be able to compete level 4 at Summit. The current rule allows a handful of kids on a summit team that competed at worlds but it has to be on a level 4 team. With summits rule if you can only cross one level up or down then you wouldn’t be able to do this anymore, correct?

Honestly I hope so, few things are as discouraging as competing against teams with 5 worlds athletes when you're a level 4 athlete. Them crossing over to R5 (now just 5) makes sense, as it's the logical "in-between", but it never made much sense that kids who can throw two to doubles were competing running layouts and standing tucks in level 4 a week after competing Worlds.

Then again, I'm also a fan of implementing the Summit crossover rules season-long and not just for one competition, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I hope not, that would be an amazing change for the better. It might be more difficult for smaller gyms but if you are attending D2 Summit then everyone is in the same position and if D1 you are large enough to figure it out imo.

I believe US teams are NOT eligible to compete at Worlds in the new "level 5" divisions (formerly restricted 5). Other countries can. Things have changed so much in the last year that I am not sure of anything Worlds-related any more, however.

I am not sure what the logic is behind that. Possibly so Varsity doesn't lose revenue from those teams not going to Summit?

The iasf had included everyone, it was the Usasf’s decision to choose not to have level 5 a worlds division for us teams. If I recall, the reasoning was that they weren’t going to increase the bid amount, and it would be a lot easier to score technique higher in lower levels such as level 5, thus causing a shift of a lot more level 5 teams than levels 6/7. So they chose to keep level 5 as a non worlds level.

That is not my understanding, but I could be wrong. I believe there will be IASF divisions, but the US will specifically not be allowed to enter or qualify in them. Perhaps the same reasoning behind the D1s being restricted from entering the XS divisions - to give others a better shot at titles?

I wouldn't want the new Level 5 at Worlds because 1) a World Championships in a sport is supposed to be for the top level only and 2) it creates less incentive to reach for Level 6. The easier you make it to get to Worlds, the less incentive there is to actually reach the top level. So hopefully the US continues to stay away from that. I understand it for international countries who may have recently been introduced to the sport of cheerleading, but for an established country, it shouldn't be something encouraged.

Even the existence of the Summit has created less incentive to strive for the top level, never mind adding even more divisions to Worlds. There are already too many. Worlds needs to remain as exclusive/prestigious as possible.

At the ICU, it looks like some countries compete in the highest level, "Premier." Countries that do not field a "Premier" team are eligible to enter in a lower level, called "Elite." It seems like that is what IASF is trying to do for worlds--maybe if any teams from your country are entered into new Level 6, you can't enter as level 5. But if absolutely no gyms from your country can field a level 6 team, you can enter as level 5? (Meaning no US gym could enter level 5, because so many US gyms will enter level 6.) I'm not sure...just guessing based on how ICU works and what @BlueCat said...

I see both sides of it. Since the scoresheet was changed and R5 (now Level 5) couldn’t do fulls In standing tumbling anymore you take a stepping stone to level 5 (now level 6) away. The stunts between these levels are very similar but you go from being on a level 5 and doing 2 To layouts etc to a level 6 where people are doing 2 to whip doubles. Where is the balance? What to gyms do with athletes that are in the middle of these skills? It’s got to be a struggle for gyms for sure. I wouldn’t mind if R5/level 5 went to worlds if they adjusted that slightly and gave them that stepping stone back!
