All-Star As Jewelry / Nails Rules

Always thought the no nail polish rule was for youth league and school cheer (I remember my dumb a$$ kid picking her gel nail polish off before a competition one time). All star never cared although most of her teams wanted something neutral and non-distracting if you were wearing polish. Jewelry has always been no across the board. We have heard of kids getting deductions for bandaids on a piercing, not sure why anyone would ever risk that.

We always have an issue on my team of asking the girls to take out their piercings before comps and the refrain is always the same: “But it’ll close up!” No the hell it won’t. Not in the three minutes you’re performing. I want to tell them: “If your piercing closes up that fast, then you have X-men healing powers and should never complain about being sore after conditioning again.”

I have literally SO many scars on my hands from the girls who thought that it was smart to get acrylics...my body is permanently!! scarred!! because of acrylic nails. I get onto my kids SO much before comps and during the season and tell them that they had better not get acrylics before a comp because they will be asked to go and have them removed, and one girl I coach just straight up never listened. At our last practice before we left for the biggest comp of our season, even her mother came up to me and tried to get me to understand that she had just spent $50 the day before to have those acrylics filled in and painted BRIGHT GREEN...she didn't understand why I said no...besides the bright green, acrylics are SUCH a safety hazard and I tried to express that to her but some folks just don't get it, sadly. If you're going to do a team-wide solid color on your natural nails, cool. I can rock with that. But fake nails have got to go!!!

Getting acrylics before homecoming or prom was always a anxious experience. You’d have to get them the Friday before, enjoy them while you could, and then peel those suckers off before 3:30 on Monday for practice.

I can't stand when people with fake nails scratch me to show that they don't actually scratch. I know then don't usually, but I've also been poked right in the eye with a flyers fingers. I'm so glad she had no nails cos I would have been in the hospital for surgery on my eye if she had anything. As it was, I was only out for the rest of practice. It's not just about getting scratched.

I had a kid w/ acrylics for a formal... she was catching a transition in a pyramid and her hands were not flat, nail completely pulled off. I had asked her to remove them quite a few times, her mom even felt as if it was OK. Well, fast forward, we wasted an hour of that practice plus the next night since she was in the ER getting it removed. BUT I was the wrong one in this situation....

My coach actually made us condition when she saw some girls with painted nails during a game lol. Times certainly have changed. What happened to waiting for off season to get the nails done/new piercing?

^^^^This^^^^ CP's school cheer coach would make the team do conditioning for not only colored nail polish but jewelry and non white socks too...lol

Funny, my college cheer coach required us to have our nails painted a certain color for games. One of the many differences between a good, qualified coach and a coach who's just there to ~have a good time~.

Geez. The girl I coached with the bright green nails refused to take them off and when we got to our big comp and practiced at a local gym she caught a skill in the pyramid with a bad grip and ripped one off. She cried and stopped performing that routine and the whole team was upset and held her accountable!! It was pretty gross.

Who stops the performance over a broken nail? I whacked myself with my own knee once and could feel my nose spraying blood every time I tumbled and I still didn’t stop because it was, after all, just my nose. Nothing really important, like a foot. Kids today, I tell ya... we baby them :)

A teammate of my daughters was told to take her nails off last week during tryouts. She didn't. Somehow when tumbling, her nail got caught under the velcro strip, it bent her finger back, and she now has a cast up to her elbow. She probably won't be attending camp with the team.

YES I hear so many stories about broken fingers because of nails.
