What are unique hairstyles for competitions? One that teams haven't done in a while.

I am a simple hair person so I have really liked the return of braids, low pony, etc. (a la Panthers, Cali Classics, etc.)

Biggest consideration: everyone's hair can't do every single thing.

I LOVED seeing low, "college" style pony tails this year. Bring it back.

I think Stingray Worlds teams (Orange, Steel, Electric) did this this year and I loved it!

I am also a fan of the "no bow" styles a la Gens/SE scrunchies, and ECE's high pony hair clippy thing.

Be careful what you wish for here. Unique hairstyles are cute, but often difficult for girls to do on themselves which means it’s usually left up to a handful of girls and/or parents to do everyone’s hair. Which can be a huge headache and sometimes downright undoable if you’ve got an early call time. I only say this because my HS team fell victim to this trap at Nationals. We had no idea how much time it would take for three girls to do the whole team’s hair, we did no dry run, and ultimately it just cramped our whole schedule. All for something that didn’t get us any extra points anyway. If you’ve got the resources and time, great. But give yourself lots of leeway.

We’re going back to a simple pony this year, with a clip vs a bow. One reason was that we did a French braid (that was pretty much hidden by the bow) into a ponytail, and it really was difficult to get everyone’s in because not everyone knew how to do the braid. (I managed it, but only because it was hidden enough by the bow that it didn’t have to be “perfect”).

I like the Dorothy braids with two small bows, but it would be hard to get everyone’s hair braided. There was also a gym that had a single bun that looked good.

TBH I kind of missed it too :( The tailless ones are my favorite AND I also liked seeing more POC rocking their natural hair with headbands or side bows, etc.

Yes to POC and just wearing bows/headbands now. I usually had to get box braids or micros for cheer because my straightened hair did not always make for the sleekest of ponies once I sweat for more than 30 seconds (back before anyone was really doing afros.)

French braids are super hard for me and I am a hair person lol.

I'm in love with the curly low side pony. No teasing look good on multiple textures, lengths, and densities. The girls also loved that they can take their hair down after a comp and not look crazy lol. For worlds I did my entire x-small teams hair 9 girls and all but one kept that style in for the entire weekend.

I like buns but my kids would hate it.

Lastly stop saying straight hair is easy, it's not.
