Was the VA location previously another program that was bought out? I believe the MI location used to be another program and they became a part of rays right?
It was All Star Legacy.

Wow. NT HAS EXPLODED THIS SEASON. I feel like every other post is a gym adding it!

I remember seeing this past year that at times teams like Lady Lux did not have anyone going against them (ex: I think they were the only one at NCA.) Or they went against one other team.

Should definitely make comps more interesting this year for them!
I'm super excited about it, can't wait to see how these divisions play out this year!!

If the division was created for the reason I was given, then yes. It means that just like every other international division with teams from elite US gyms, it is a huge challenge for a country outside the US and Canada to globe thus negating the original reason for the division.
I'm not a fan of the division (major understatement), but at least the explanation I was given as to why it was created made some sense to me. I wish if it was going to be a division and a Worlds one at that, it would be reserved for non-US teams the same way level 5 is this year.
Personally I wish they would have stuck to the original rules set in place for these new divisions.. I was a fan of the xs division being exclusive for smaller gyms and it would have been nice to see at least for one more season. As far as NT I said it before it started and I'll say it again I'll give it a few years before I'm critical of it.

With level 5 being the new 6 will they be allowed to do level 6 stunting in the international division at least? I could see that being more exciting for that division to have a little more freedom in the stunting portion.

I know there are some rule changes in Intl divisions for level 6, the main one being that Intl 6 can now do rewinds as can level 7. Not too sure of the others, or if there are any others, but that's the big one I've seen. They must be flipping only (no rewind fulls), and you can't tumble into them. Baskets are 2 1/2 twists, but not limited to 3 skills, like intl level 5 is. I think if there's anything else, it's pretty minor in comparison

What about the international non tumbling level 5. I think thats what i meant to refer to in my original post.

I know 5 is just changing to 6 but it seriously is throwing me off when it comes to what will and wont change.

How do gyms decide where to place athletes if there are two different teams for the same age group and level? For example: a small senior 4 and a medium senior coed 4? I’ve noticed a couple big gyms that have this happening, and if you have enough athletes go for it, but how do you decide who goes where? Do you stack one team or try to make them even?

I can't speak for everyone else, but generally, we try to make them even for their division. (Each team is equally strong against what we think the division will be.). That doesn't always work out perfectly, but that is generally our goal.

For those gyms with NT teams, what's the athlete experience/background that make up most of the team?

I'm really looking forward to watching NT develop over the next few years. Personally, I would rather watch many of these teams do some really creative and solid stunts and pyramids versus watching them perform 30-45 seconds of average tumbling in comparison to the top tumbling handful of teams.

The statement I read for NT from some "power at be," was not only to help International teams. They said it was to also help all gyms retain higher level athletes they would normally lose to injury, cost to rehab, blocking, multi year/stalled tumbling progression, etc.

I know some of the kids on my daughters team could tumble with world level tumbling but MOST could not. Other gyms field teams of kids that most can do world level tumbling and only a FEW cannot. Not sure each gym's philosophy on how and why they formed NT teams or why a team that possesses the necessary tumbling for worlds level would choose NT instead. I just know kiddo's team was formed with the idea of retaining those senior age athletes as suggested in the IASF explanation. My kiddo, reached r5 level in her tumbling but couldn't break into elite world level tumbling, no double, no standing full, or special combos. She was so grateful for a chance to finally go to worlds on an NT team. Otherwise she would never have gone, and now she's retired. Now that NT has blown up this season, I truly hope teams are made of athletes that now have a chance to go to worlds because they dont possess the needed tumbling or struggle with mental blocks, not teams full of world level tumblers hoping for an easy win. Granted, even if a team is made up of tumblers, the argument can be made that they dont tumble so what's the difference? I guess I think athletes and teams need to be level appropriate according to their skills as a whole. Like not placing level 5 athletes on a level 2 team. It's weird to me to see people with doubles and standing fulls, and toe touch fulls on a NT team because it seems like their skills are not being used to the athlete's advantage, like they are being shortchanged a little. But that's just my opinion lol.

It will definitely not be easy this season. The division is huge this season. I know for coed NT this last season, there were more than 21 teams in the US alone with 18 going to worlds and only 3 going on to finals. I think overall there were a total of 33 or 35 at worlds all together and I know of some coed non US teams who didnt get a bid to worlds. There are gonna be waaaay more than 20 US teams this season. I forgot the number of all girl but it was a bit less than coed but it is also exploding.

I couldn't agree more with everything you said !

For my kiddo, last year was her 1st Worlds and she fits the description you made of having some tumbling but not elite level, being on the verge of retiring, getting a chance at a Worlds team because of NT and so on and so forth.

Her team was mainly composed of level 3's and 4.2's with zero Worlds experience (27 out of 32 were rookies) and I think like most other teams in this division, they were thrown together and the gym owners crossed their fingers that it could work without having any comparison to go by.

Without being a dream team, they did pretty well all season, ending it with a Silver Globe just behind Cheer Extreme Lady Lux who were the exact opposite of them (Around 5-6 rookies out of 30+ girls).

That said, you could see the gap between the 3 or 4 best teams in the world and the rest of the bunch, it was pretty obvious that every gym didn't go at it the same way when they put together their teams, again, they couldn't know what to look for because they had nothing to compare with.

Now this year is much different ! Everybody knows what to look for and it shows...Like you said, the division exploded in co-ed AND All-Girl, there's not a day that goes by without learning that this or that gym now has a NT team, from Cali to Brandon and every other big time gym !

Last night we had our team reveal and kiddo is on the same team as last year, with the difference that they are now composed mostly of last year's level 5 athletes and more experienced girls, and yes, some of them do have tumbling skills to go to Worlds on other levels but for some reason (My guess is that other teams with tumbling were fully loaded or they wanted to give their bodies a break from tumbling, I really don't know...) ended up on the 6.0 team.

Yes, this year US teams will be scary good but thanks to the International rule of 3 teams per country, it will be anybody's ball game once on the Worlds mat on day 2, can't wait to see how it unfolds !

Wish everyone, athletes, parents and coaches a great year on their 2019-2020 team !!

Agreed, tumbling is hard on the body. Some of our kids were struggling with recovering from or having current broken backs, fingers, ankles, post surgeries, brain surgeries, mental blocks, etc. Most of the kids had never been to worlds some level 3s and 4s, r5s, older athletes who no longer tumble like they used to when in their prime etc. The only thing I know about Lady Lux is a lot of them came from their original spotlight 4.2 team and did not possess world tumbling but natural progression from level 4 to level 5 stunts. I dont know how many were first time worlds kids but they were amazing. There was one team at worlds who started as a 4.2 and switched up to level 5 to try to go to worlds. I thought that was awesome. I dont really know the makeup of most of the teams last season and none this season lol. Congrats on your kiddos globe. Mine also globed with a bronze medal her first (and last) worlds trip. It was truly amazing for her and her team to hit zero at worlds and come home with a globe. I will be so excited to see all the teams this year and root them all on.
