I looked up the grid for that EP and even their grid would have had the child ineligible.

My only guess is they entered the "Grand Spirit Co-Ed" division which allows 6 years old and up? (Comp PDF - Page 6). Yo no hablo español but I can't find anything about what the rules for the "Open" division are... Seems like a free-for-all if they're allowing double back baskets... Yikes yikes yikes.
 
Question about registering for Varsity competitions, if the deadline is say 2/1 is that firm or do they take late registration after that? How many days before a competition is registration closed generally? Thanks!
