My kids are involved with college cheer and no longer in allstar, so I'm out of the loop this year. I am hearing that hotels are very difficult to get for most major competitions, and that UCA is now charging $365 for registration and it only includes a 2 day hopper versus the 3 day that has always been included in the past. Cost was becoming a huge issue for us particularly over the last two years. What has your experience been so far this year? Is it more expensive/less options for hotels or does it seem consistent with past years?

2 days only? Way out of control and more comps are trying to add STP......which are never cheaper! Just once I wish big gyms would veto a Big STP comp to say it’s got to stop!!!

We just got an email from one of our coaches about UCA, she was furious about the park hopper change/cost and also said they raised the crossover fee. As far as hotels for stay to play comps, one of our hotel options for NCA was $169 which didn’t seem bad at all! Our only other STP comp is Battle at the Capital and the Gaylord is still it’s same overpriced self as last year, but the other hotel options were cheaper.

Per an Orlando resident friend:

Feb. 2018, the mayor of Orlando approved short term Airbnb rentals in all residential neighborhoods. The prices to rent a home per day are extremely low, which greatly increased the traffic at the parks.

Oct. 2018 Disney World switched to date specific demand based pricing for multi-day tickets too, not just their one day tickets (that switch happened in 2016). If you purchase a 3 day park hopper today for Sept 18, 19, 20, it would be $396 ($132/day) on their website. If you purchase a 3 day park hopper for UCA dates of March 12, 13, 14 2019 it jumps to $435 ($145/day). Our family wanted to go on New Years Eve and a one day park hopper is $219/day. We will be bringing in the New Year mouse free.

Aug. 2019, Star War Galaxy Edge opened.

I don't see any relief in the near future for club sports. Parents and sport directors/owners still want to continue competing on the highest level and these venues and sport parks are a huge component of city marketing.

I wish they would just drop the park hopper entirely. We usually can't afford to miss school/work to actually use it Our gym isn't doing UCA because of the expense this year for the first time in forever.

THIS. Yes Disney did raise their prices. It shouldn't excuse Varsity requiring athletes to purchase them in the first place (but I guarantee it is in the USASF/Varsity contract for all events held at WWOS.

Agree, with the schedule our team had there last year really wasn’t any time to go enjoy the park anyway! But then then they would lose a ton of $$$!

The middle schools in our district do a band, orchestra, choir trip to Disney every year in the 8th grade. They have a similar Disney package for their performing art camps, and the park hopper is the requirement to get the facility. Pricing | Disney Performing Arts Performance | Instrumental

ETA: The performing arts facility is no where close to the size of ESPN WWOS, so I would imagine the requirements vary by what you're wanting.

I wish they would offer an option - park ticket included OR WWOS admission only competition fee.

I believe they already have that. I’m not sure for UCA. But I know Worlds and Summit, you can purchase a WWOS ticket and sell your daughters park pass

I’ve heard of people selling their park tickets but I’ve never done it. I don’t want to try to find someone to buy my tickets I just want to have the option to pay comp fee+ wwos entrance directly as part of varsity offering.

This year I don’t know who would buy a 2 day park hopper that costs over $365. When it was 3 day it was a much better deal for someone looking for park admission.

There was a lotmof discussion last year on various FB groups. I'm pretty sure it isn't officially allowed, but, so far, they don't do biometrics until you check in, but the logistics are annoying (and if the pass is linked to a magic band, may be impossible if you are staying on site). And it would be very easy for Disney to make it impossible by giving cheerleaders an obviously different card than one day admissions, or linking biometrics at check in, so I'd be scared to risk it.

Here's a subject that speaks to me...Now I don't know how it is for US based teams but for us in Canada, the choices are pretty much limited, unless of course you decide to plan your trip yourself.

We have 2 options (At our gym at least) :

1-World Packages witch includes your stay at the same Disney resort as your team (7 days, 6 nights) + Transportation from airport to hotel (Magical Express) + 3 day admission to ESPN WWOS + Access to charter bus (At Celebrity Hall) to take you to WWOS + 5 day Disney park hopper pass + Block Party.

To this, you have the choice to add the plane ticket or not.

All in all, depending on if you split your small Disney room with 3 (+/-1100$), 2 (1300$), 1 (1500$), or nobody (2300$) if you add the round trip (+/-750$) the total experience will cost you between 2000$ and 3000$ each person, not counting your kid for whom you have paid at the start of the year in the 5 or 6000$ for the season witch includes World's wether you make it or not...if you don't, you get to go on the trip but you don't hit the mat.

2-Same as 1st but without the plane ticket, witch is often what people take because you can get a trip to Orlando for far less than 750$. (i.e. Last year I paid 329$ round trip).

Of course, athletes get the same package minus the opportunity to take another plane but since it is in the price of their season, it's ok.

The option of planning my own trip from top to bottom doesn't appeal to me as much, even though almost every experienced parent at our gym does so...Renting a home or Villa between a couple of parents is much less costly but you have to rent a car for yourself (or split with everybody) plan all your moves with you gym's and World's schedule (that can change on the drop of a dime) deal with traffic, pay for parking and daily admission to WWOS etc etc, all that without seeing your kid once except when they're on the mat competing during all the duration of your stay.

Now what would be MY ideal package (Since I've now been to Disney 2 times in the last 2 year and seen every park or attraction) would be the stay near our team (i.e. Disney All Star Sports) + ESPN WWOS 3 day access + Charter. That's it.

5 day park hopper is great for those who can't get enough, the newbies and the kids, same goes for the Block Party.

For the sake of discussion, depending on where you're from (US, Europe, Canada) : What can you do without ? What is the all around cost at your gym ? Do you have options ? But mostly : What would be YOUR ideal Worlds Package ?

Thanks to the OP for the great subject, I was thinking about starting one myself but leeching on to yours is just as good ;)
