I would LOVE it if Mykayla made the world team. Is that selection camp happening now?

Also, I keep hearing that Laurie is making a comeback and eyeing a return to this camp. I’m all for body positivity and think she’s beautiful just the way she is, but I can’t imagine how she can physically do elite level skills at the size she is right now.

And this may be an unpopular opinion, but seeing as there are only four spots on the Tokyo team open (three besides Simone), would it kill Laurie to just chill and not try to take a spot? It was controversial last quad when Gabby’s comeback took a spot that some say should have gone to Ragan, Ashton, or Mykayla. They should have a rule that only 1 spot can be taken by a returning Olympian.. or at the very least, decide the team strictly by scoring at nationals & trials and not have some arbitrary panel placing ppl on the team.

I'm a huge Laurie fan, but time is running out on her unfortunately. I am not sure one season is enough to get back to Olympic level skills, especially with how deep the US field is.

I don’t think Laurie can realistically expect to get back all the needed skills in less than a year at this point, however if she can, I don’t see a problem with her getting the spot. It should be the best people for the team, limiting the amount of times one can be on an Olympic team is silly and rather self defeating.

I think Laurie just said she was trying for a comeback to keep sponsors interested since she went pro. Which is fine, get your money, girl. Showing some videos of a couple beam series doesn't indicate she is ready on any other apparatus (or even to do a full beam routine.) She doesn't look conditioned, and I don't mean she has to be stick skinny, just that if she were actually training 40+ hours a week like the rest of the elites vying for a spot on the Worlds/Olympic team her body composition would start to change.

She really is one I think would have done phenomenally well in the NCAA. I know she was marketable from a PR perspective and if the endorsements she took paid out more than 4 years of college scholarship would be worth, she made the right call... I just get sad that we were deprived of NCAA Laurie because of stupid outdated sponsorship rules that need to be reevaluated.

Riley just withdrew from selection camp because she had rhabdomyolysis (mild). Shilese also withdrew due to injury.

I have to wonder what caused that in Riley, since there are several causes from what I read about it.

Edited because I didn’t notice autocorrect sucks.

In almost any other sport (at this elite level), if an athlete came down with rhabdo, the coach would be seriously investigated. Literally means the muscle cells in her body are bursting which can cause SERIOUS kidney issues, among other things. She'll also lose actual muscle mass and comebacks can be difficult even if they're calling it "mild."

Coupled with the allegations against Maggie Haney... yikes. She should be banned from coaching already.

So, the 2017 World Champ will not be going to Worlds. I would love to see Morgan make it to Tokyo but I don't think she's been uber consistent lately when it's counted. I hope this lights a fire for her.

Also, holy moly, Sunisa was only .35 away from Simone, she comin y'all :sharkchase:

Maggie's child abuse case lawyer posting updates about Riley .... almost comical, if not for the actual child caught in the middle (accompanied with a photo where she looks like she might topple over.) Her season is over, LET THE CHILD REST, even if it's the most "mild" case that ever was. #FreeRiley

Since I know the boards keep up with Laney Madsen, she didn't score high enough in her AA and will not qualify for 2020 Olympics. (Currently sitting at 124th place with 3 more subdivisions to go.) Bulgaria wasn't included on my livestream, so assuming her 7.566 on UB means she fell and it didn't go well. Her other scores were in the 11-13 range.

Woof. I'm seeing a 2.4 D score. Does anyone know if it was maybe her last event and she didn't complete her routine? Hopefully she didn't fall/get injured during it.

FIG is uploading all routines to their youtube, so I'm interested to see what the heck happened.

according to twitter Laney missed her Jaeger but was not injured. Unfortunately, I did not see the Olympics happening for her but she has still done something amazing and I think she will be great in college!
