I believe she had two falls on bars and sat down her arabian on floor. After bars I kinda knew it it’s over for her. She has looots of build in deductions and judges were harsh with E scores. So I feel like even if she would hit everything she wouldn’t made it. The cut was 48.166. Her aa score was 43.532. I love love her but it’s time for her dad to stop posting nonsense on facebook. I’m also devastated for Kara Eaker and Brazil. Brazil had the worst luck with injuries at worlds and Kara had such a good opportunity for individual medal. She must be heartbroken.

I'm so mad on Kara's behalf at whoever submitted the inquiry. SHE QUALIFIED TO EF IN 5TH PLACE! You submit in inquiry in finals when a medal is at stake, not in quals when you made it and your ring leaps are horrific and now you put extra judge eyes on them. So stupid. Especially after this literally happened the previous day when Moors' inquiry decreased her score and also knocked her out of floor finals.

Yes!!! What the hell was Armine thinking? She must be mad as hell

I have literally just returned for this week of gymnastics commentary :D

The Kara Eaker situation is just dumb. DUMB. It's the Worlds stage, her routine is built in such a way for her to get HAMMERED if the judges took more than a second to look at her ring leaps/jumps (which are notoriously borderline and all-too-easy to devalue). And then you HAND THAT to them on a silver platter?!? POURQUOI!?!

I'm also just..in general awe about the collapse of the Romanian empire. I mean- we all saw it slowly decreasing but dang.

ETA: Rhabdo is SERIOUSLY no joke and something that's started cropping up in crossfit athletes and people who are hardcore overtraining. For a gymnast to get to that level is just bonkers and inexcusable to me.

It always amazes me how far apart the US mens and womens teams are every year :(

I like how Jordyn Wieber tweeted about about “two-per-country” needs to be removed when Sam Mikulak literally benefitted from it yesterday.

I have never seen so many falls as I have today:(
Italy with a team medal!

I don't have a cable package so I couldn't watch live, but I love how the YT channel is like 'XX's Stellar Performance helps USA to Team Gold' and I'm like...uhh, no? She botched her bars, Suni fell off beam, and somehow by the sheer stack of points we come in with, it doesn't matter and we can still win anyway.

The lack of depth in the USA Men's program is just...sad. I've long been curious about the disparity in what the women and men can do, but I have no insight into why?

I think a lot of it is stereotypes. Little boys don't want to do gymnastics, it's not "cool". I'm not sure why being super strong and being able to do flip isn't cool, but throwing someone to the ground and giving them a concussion is buttttt that's another story.

Female gymnasts are celebrated, the men just aren't. I don't think they have a big pool to pull from to begin with, and I think there are very few coaches that can handle and properly coach all the male apparatus. Just many small things that add up to major discrepancies between the men and women in the US. I think in countries like China or Russia there is not such a stigma against male gymnasts if I had to guess.

I think it's also the training process. When the Karolyi's changed the way the US women's program trained, it directly created the success they have experienced in the last few quads. The men's program is different. The men are competing from their college programs. Yes, there is the US Olympic training facility out in Colorado that they train at, but it's completely different from the Women's. If you look at the countries that dominate on the men's side, they train just like the women do.

And the Collegiate system isn't structured the same as Elite's.

Yeah- I suppose when you're country-sponsored at all levels it's a little different.

I find this article interesting:

Comparing men's and women's gymnastics is futile: they're barely the same sport | Sport | The Guardian

They list a few reasons that have already been talked about here but a couple other big reasons were 1. loss of/less resources like NCAA mens gymnastics programs and scholarships; as well as 2. the difference in building teams for men, who have 6 events to cover, vs the building womens team, who have 4 events, all with 5 athletes. Leaves room for specialists for women while the men have to be better all arounders on 2 additional events.

Interesting- I hadn't thought of the complication of 2 extra events with the same amount of athletes.

Also- poor Suni. Not the showing she would have wanted :(
