I mean... they look pretty good right? Based on their elites, I was expecting them to borrow a lot more from last year’s routine. Which is a strategy I understand: do what you do and do it well, even if that means adopting parts of last year’s choreo (and if last year’s choreo came thisclose to winning Worlds, then why not?). But I am pleasantly surprised with this routine. Really stunning and entertaining to watch.

Overall I really like SE’s approach to things: clean lines and comfortable stunts. Can it beat Panthers’ difficulty and Stars’ creativity? Idk. But I’ll have fun watching.

^^^^They have been playing it solid/safe for a few years and I don't necessarily know if it works in their favor at this point?

I mean, if it only works if say, the more innovative and difficult routines do not hit, does it actually work?

(Rays is similarly "play it solid" but the difficulty is generally there. I feel like SE's stunts always have the "this is sassy and cute but safe" factor over being difficult.)

Also not a fan of overly highlighting center/point with a completely separate stunt. Am I the only one? Ex: Rockstar did same like 2 seasons ago with one girl's elite traveling 3 panels over alllll the way to center with elaborate motions and I thought it was extra.

To clarify: subtle highlight is fine. Example - center doubling up to a bow and arrow while everyone else doubles up to stretch. But literally an entire 8 count of an individual stunt in the middle of everyone else is beyond that.

That is a question for the ages. Play it safe and hit? Or go big and risk NOT hitting? My personal experience (which is mostly with HS admittedly) says play it safe. And yeah, doing so presupposes that more difficult routines won’t hit and thus therein lies your success — which is a more passive approach than anyone would prefer — but in SE’s defense, that’s exactly what happened to Panthers last year.

When actively coaching (HS) I was generally the Risk Taker. My assistant was the Play It Safe. Even now she messages me for advice (she was promoted into my role when I stepped back) and we have the "DO THE THING" v. "But what if it falls?" argument. She had to pull me back from the edge of DO THE BIG THING a few times (because The Thing was inconsistent and she knew we needed to play it safer.)

As much as I hate to say it, anytime she insisted that WE CAN'T KEEP THE RISKY THE THING OR WE ARE GOING TO FAIL MISERABLY, she was totally right.

There’s a lot of romance and courage in taking the risk, but I’ve just had my heart broken too many times with it. Putting it all out there and hoping the stars align in your favor just got exhausting after awhile.

Is anyone else feeling a little underwhelmed by a lot of teams today? I get that it’s only a showcase/super early (and don’t get me wrong, these routines look DIFFICULT), but I feel that I’m watching the same skills over and over again for the most part... hoping to see some more innovation ad creativity as more routines come out.

ETA - spelling errors

I feel the same. I haven't really been blown away with any routine yet. I get its early but :(
