Yeah, I just can't figure out a reason for it unless it's to hide some inconsistencies in the needles. They turn to arabesque anyway so why not just make the extra quarter turn with the needle?

It's an interesting choice. The routine very conspicuously showcases one flyer's needle later in the routine, from a more traditional angle.

That’s true, and I almost think they did that because nobody else is as flexible as her. Because in my experience, if you’re showcasing one girl’s skills, it’s because she’s the only one who can do them. Otherwise why wouldn’t you have everyone do it?

Which isn’t supposed to be a dig at the rest of the flyers for two reasons: 1. That particular flyer’s flexibility looks to be the kind that you’re born with (like hyperextended legs), and 2. Pulling your foot to your face is not a body position anyone has been training for anyway. So I’m not knocking them at all. I would not expect her level of flexibility from anyone as a matter of course. That’d be unfair.

That said, I just know (from HS experience, admittedly) that sometimes when you have a super talented flyer, it’s best to give her a solo bit to highlight her skills rather than prop her up against the other girls whose same skills aren’t quite there yet. That way her skills don’t go to waste, and you’re also not inadvertently undermining everyone else’s skills by comparison.

That’s just how HS cheer has taught me to read a routine, anyway. Could be a million reasons why they went this direction. But that’s my knee-jerk reaction when I see a single athlete being showcased.

So far Lady Lux has been the only routine that really entertained me. Their routine was really dynamic and their pyramid (which is usually my least favorite part of the routine) was the first pyramid I've seen in a long time that was full of elements I've never seen before. I kept rewinding over and over to try and catch it all!

I'm really excited to be starting to see the NT division grow into what I was hoping it would become.

SMOEX looked much better than Coed Elite which is...... awkward.

I don't know if the CEA-Raleigh teams get their choreo from someone else or just have the more innovative coaches, but there is a clear difference between say, Coed and SE routine difficulty/skills and Smoex/SSX/Cougar Coed.

I am also really interested in seeing a lot of the NT teams this season. It was so new that I think Lady Lux went without competition at a few bigger comps like NCA. So many gyms are fielding AG and Coed NT (i.e. Cali and CA-Plano are both new to having one this year as well as Rockstar Greenville) so it's going to be interesting to see how the top placers from last season's worlds stack up to the newcomers.

I don't enjoy discussing these kids specifically so I wont, but the flyers on SE don't have a flexibility issue. They all have gorgeous body positions and IMHO there is a more obvious reason for the feature than compensating for flexibility.

Got around to watching SMOEX and OH MY GOD.

I would not be mad if they snatched gold this year. Beyond impressed.

Don't like the flared skirts though.

I couldn’t believe people are being hypercritical of SE’s flyers’ flexibility. Only one team comes to mind if you talk about flyers not being that supple
