I can't fault anyone of them for trying to strike while the iron is hot; clearly he's excited to go on Ellen. I do think it'll make any form of Season 2 less exciting.

It has to be hard especially for those kids fresh out of high school who would like to do two years and move on to a 4 year school to have to compete with people who've been there 3,4 or 5 years for a spot on the mat.
It would be one thing if they had been there all year, but coming just for second semester now makes the show less of a documentary and more reality tv. It tarnishes it for me.

I think Lexi would have returned regardless of the show. Monica had shared she has removed athletes for a semester due to poor choices then later allowed them a second chance. Jerry was back before the show was released. Ladarius is the only one whose return seems to be linked directly to the show going viral.

This is a good article on Lexi’s return.

You can't compete with a junior college for more than 3 years.

Since I don't know these rules well, would someone like Jerry, who wasn't on the mat the year prior only be considered in Year 1 since he competed 2019, year 2 2020, year 3 2021? Which would make him a 4 year athlete, but only 3 years on the mat?

Yes it only counts if you compete on the mat. Technically, you could do sideline cheer at a Junior College or University forever. I am not recommending that! Lol

I actually think he was OO5 earlier this year.

As far as I can tell, he has been with Wildcats all year. Jerry is on that team too.

Yes, the restriction basically only applies to years competed at NCA/UCA.

Thank you. So essentially, incoming freshmen could be against 4th and 5th year team members. I don't see how that would help anyone academically, but it could definitely elongate a cheer career I suppose.

Yea he tried out for and made OO5, not sure how long he stayed there though. He wasn't back on Wildcats until recently, wasn't there at their last comp in December.

Ladarius just joined Wildcats for this season. Jerry has been with Wildcats for a while. Both were on Wildcats last season.

Gabi’s parents are something else. At first I was like, I’m not a parent; IDK anything. And if I did have a super talented kid, I’m sure I’d want to be involved in their life and career as well.

But I’d do it to make sure they were making good decisions and not getting taken advantage of... not because I was trying to monetise every last cent from their skills. And it seems like they’re doing just that. All while making themselves intractable in her life and talking down to her like she’s a child, which only sends the message: “You can’t do any of this without our help, and you shouldn’t even dare to try because you’re the (20-something) kid and we’re the adults.” It just hamstrings/guilts her into doing whatever they want, which is hugely unfair since she’s literally the only one doing the work that anyone cares about. I’m sure her dad makes a few calls now and then, but it’s her who is flying all over the country to compete on multiple teams, juggling school, and committing herself to any appearances her dad can drum up. AND dealing with her snippy sisters who somehow feel she owes them even more than she’s already given. Everyone wants a piece of this kid and she just sits there and takes it because she thinks it’s normal for your family exploit her skills and then act like she owes them.

I used to think her life was pretty great: cheer at most lost elite teams on the planet, travel the world and model in your off time, and get paid to do what you love. Who wouldn’t choose that life? Now I just feel bad for her and want her to be okay.

I feel like she’s going to push back hard. Probably sooner rather than later. I think this doc will be the catalyst now that people are coming to her and saying, “Hey... this isn’t normal.” And when she does push back, it’s going to be rough on everyone. I really wouldn’t be surprised if she quits for a year because of all the BS coming from the people who are supposed to support her, not exploit her.

Maybe I’m taking out of turn, but it all really bothered me.
As a parent of a cheerleader and after meeting Gabi’s parents a few times, I think they were unfairly portrayed. Seeing a tiny snapshot and characterizing her family because of it isn’t fair. I know they obviously agreed to be on the show but creative editing is always key on reality shows. I’m sure they are flawed, (aren’t we all?) but let’s not forget they had to give up careers, family time, etc. while helping Gabi travel the country for cheer. I’m sure being the managers and parents may not be the best for most people but for them it does work and I think they are a very tight knit family. They may not be a traditional family to some but I don’t think at this age Gabi is trapped by any means. She did a live stream about the show’s portrayal and answered questions about her family. She’s an adult so she certainly may decide to go a different route but there is no handbook for raising a 13 year old cheerlebrity and I’m sure they are trying their best. I’m not sure I know any cheer parents that aren’t a little crazy but maybe that’s just me!

Side question/concern re: returners:

I wonder how this changes the team dynamic and everyone's behavior?

Yeah a few of them were "cheer famous" before this but now they're ACTUAL famous.

I would love to think that everyone is equal and the kids from the show are humble enough to not get big headed but who knows.

I wonder if it will create a difference in team synergy as in you have The Kids from The Show thinking they are above the Not Show Teammates.
