SDSU just hit zero as well!

Not sure who will take all girl. Bama, Oklahoma, and SDSU did well. If I had to guess, I'd say Oklahoma just due to difficulty.

The looked so uncharacteristically nervous.

UCF just hit zero. They'll most likely take the coed title.

They were in an uncharacteristic position:

They’ve won four or five in a row.

They were in second place after semis.

Not sure if they’ve been in second after semis in any of the last four or five years.

There’s a good possibility none of these athletes have ever been in second place after semis while at UK.

The tradition is “second place sucks.”

That’s a lot of pressure.

I was down there. Strong message being sent across the board: “we” want clean, fun execution, with less emphasis on difficulty. Did they change the college score sheet this year? I was looking online and noticed Diff was 5 points and Perfection/Performance of skills was 10 on both Stunts and Pyramids. That’s more in line with high school score sheet than I feel like it used to be.

If that’s the case, the message was sent and delivered, “we” are no longer looking for the circus show crash and burn. I hope that carries over to NHSCC.

Good point regarding Kentucky. IMO the Wildcats hate losing, especially since they took third place behind UCF and Alabama.

If you followed Cheerleader Generation or really UCA D1A in general, you know that Ole Miss Coed did not make finals last year.

They made finals and placed 10th in the routine comp.

This year they also placed 3rd in Game Day which is their highest finish in program history. Exciting!

Is Ryan still coaching them?!

Yes. At least, she was listed as one of the coaches of both coed and all girl on the screen before those teams went on.

That’s good. Glad she had more success this year.

Sometimes I think the addition of a camera crew can be too much of a distraction to a team. Obviously this isn’t true for every team with a show and some can handle the spotlight just fine, but I feel like when teams are filmed they either really win or really lose. There’s very little in-between (no second or third place during off years... just fourth and below). IDK if this was the case for her, but it’s just a pattern I’ve noticed. But either way, glad she’s still doing it.

IMO what Morehead State in Division I Coed and Shelton State in Open Coed need is a rival team that can seriously challenge these teams much like UPRB vs. West Georgia in Division II Coed and Drury vs. Wilmington in Small Coed Division II in the very near future. Thoughts?

With the renewed focus on performance/execution over difficulty, I believe you’ll see all the divisions get closer in the next 2-3 years.

I say that knowing that it’s been 3 years in high school and coaches are still pushing the envelope with routines their kids don’t have a prayer of hitting.

The caveat here is that most competitive colleges have knowledgeable coaches. The high school ranks are very hit and miss.

I am not very familiar with UCA College Cheer. So, I looked up UK Cheer. From Wiki :

“The UK squad has won the Universal Cheerleaders Association National College Cheerleading Championship an unprecedented twenty-four times, in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, more than any other Division 1A school. UK's squad is the only team to win back to back championships twice, once in 1987 and 1988 and again in 1995 and 1996. Further, UK is the only squad ever to win three, four, five, six, seven, and eight championships in a row. UK's eight-year streak of championships was broken in 2003 when they finished runner-up to the University of Central Florida. They regained the title in January of 2004 and won their third straight in 2006. The University of Central Florida regained the championship in 2007 when UK finished in third place. But the next year, UK came home with their 16th title. The University of Alabama broke Kentucky's win streak in 2011. But the following year, UK came home with their 19th title. In 2013, the University of Memphis defeated UK. UK's most recent victory was in 2019, marking the squads first three peat since the 2008-2010 three peat.”

Love UK
