It DOES make more sense financially for them to try.

Cancellations = refunds, at least partially, right?

Also, this pushes Summit/Worlds into July?

I think pushing events when gyms aren’t able to practice is irresponsible.

I can’t speak to what’s happening in the US but in canada, at least where I am, schools are closed, all public facilities are closed, they daily have conferences telling us to stay home and keep 6 feet apart and the government is pouring money into supports.

I think the season needs to be called and everyone set up for next.

But that’s just me.

As of today, I am pretty sure more than half of our states have gyms closed.

The timeframe of closure varies.

The issue is that closures/timeframes are determined by state law.

Example: If all is well in June, one could still argue that a gym in a state with no practice til May 1st is at a disadvantage v. one in another state that has been allowed to practice the whole time like a normal season.

Suzy and her vapid mom and idiotic coaches are literally the problem here. This is so stinking wrong. Shut it down. Don't have massive events. I am so sorry, but cancel world's and the summits. Follow the freaking CDC guidelines so that people don't die. I want every freaking person here and their loved ones to survive so they can see next season. These freaking idiots have no clue or empathy or understanding about the situation. I didn't think I could dislike Varsity more. They literally just made me think they are literally the worst.

It's unfair to assume and actually, most parents are absolutely against continuing the season so it will be interesting to see what gyms decide to do. Varsity also said they will offer full refunds for gyms who choose to cancel any competition. I also heard that STP will not be required for any of the rescheduled events.
I am not a fan of Varsity by any stretch, but I think what they are doing is the most fair approach given they are offering full refunds.

It may be a fair approach, but I’m not convinced it’s the socially responsible one.

Gym A decides to shut it down to follow CDC recommendations etc.

Gym B plows forward, and let’s say they get lucky (super unrealistically lucky) and no one gets sick and attends events.

Chances are, Gym A has put themselves at financial risk of closing, or losing athletes for deciding to pause. Chances are also that Gym B has cases of COVID-19 which let’s be honest, can’t be great for business either.

Its hard. I think anyone not following recommendations, unless they have a viable reason to not self isolate or socially distance or whatever the buzz word for this all is, will just be putting others at risk. And sure, most people will survive and be healthy at the end.
But I’m over here with an immunocompromised sister, 2 older and immunocompromised parents and a first responder spouse who *cannot* stay home from work, worried sick about them because people want to be jerks about staying home or avoiding groups of people

Varsity also said they will offer full refunds for gyms who choose to cancel any competition.

The screenshot from CheerUpdates looks like it's referring to only Summit events in that communication. It's unclear if they are issuing the same policies for the other events. (Spent some time looking online but couldn't find anything else.) Hopefully they extend the policy to other events.

As annoying as it is for people, June/July for Worlds and Summit also probably the BEST they could do.

Think about it. MAY is out. We could still be quarantined.

AUGUST is out. Summit-aged kids are back in school. Aged out seniors are moving into dorms, having orientation, starting their COLLEGE cheer football seasons, starting classes, etc. That is impossible.

You are left with June or July.

Yes, it interferes with tryouts, evals, choreo, etc. but gyms have some control over those things and could be flexible with Worlds or Summit kids. I'm sure it will be bit of a pickle for high school cheer athletes but the way this month has been, I think most people would understand.

Simply cancelling the event is the move in my opinion. To me it's the safest/smartest option, and who's to say this doesn't continue through the summer? Putting this carrot of hope out there, only to have it canceled later on, is worse than just cancelling at the start. There's no way of knowing for certain that things will be back to "normal" by summer. May as well cancel now and rip the band-aid off.

The most conservative estimate I see of this getting better is (approx) early May.

The least I've seen is THIS FALL/AUGUST.

So much uncertainty.

Rescheduling these events is incredibly irresponsible of Varsity. Call the season now and let gym owners provide on line content to keep the cheerleaders engaged and parents paying.

Why can't they be creative? They could allow video submissions from Varsity competitions this year for world's and summits. Allow paid voting for favorite teams for fan favorites. Allow spectators to watch the submitted routines for a price with varsity feeds. There's a way to salvage this without risking safety. It's not ideal, but it's doable. And the athletes will be able to at least have some experience with the voting and videos. They can still have virtual award ceremonies. There's a way to do something here. They are going to have to be creative and think outside the box.

I'm so so confused
Why do people still think things can go back to normal in June/July. We are not even close to the peak of infections .Nowhere close yet. How in the world should we have any sporting event

I mean they have cancelled the European Soccer Tournament which is HUGE over here and postponed it to 2021
Why should Cheer be back in June?

I'm trying to be optimistic and i would love to see my athletes back in the gym asap . I would love to compete in June. But as of right now i don't see it

There is not a way to salvage this season. Teams should not be practicing at this time period unless there are less than 10 members including the coach. Every other sport is currently cancelled cheer is just not essential [emoji2372]

Nothing about what I said required anyone to leave their homes. :)

For most teams Worlds is about the experience. "Going to Worlds" just isn't the same when it is a video watching on your couch. It is a way for gyms and Varsity to continue to make money so I guess it is good for them.
