Is anyone else watching this on Netflix? Holy god.

As someone who works in rescue, I felt like I had to even though I was pretty sure it’d make me mad. Parts did. But other parts were so incredibly out there I had to rewatch to make sure I was understanding what I was watching.

This one has it all, even stuff you didn’t know you wanted: thinly-veiled polygamist cults, platinum blonde mullets, sparkly blazers, the feds, murder for hire plots, failed presidential/gubernatorial campaigns, suspicious fires, the guy who reportedly inspired “Scarface,” and a husband who disappeared under very suspicious circumstances. So if any of that interests you, give it a watch.

But be warned: while there are no outright acts of animal cruelty portrayed, there are images of dead animals pulled from news sites. Also, some animals are seen in conditions and situations that, while not abusive, are not ideal.

Also: there’s a pretty gruesome scene that catches the aftermath of a tiger mauling and while the injury is blurred, it’s still clear what happened. And lastly, there is footage of a man’s reaction caught on CCTV after a park employee accidentally shoots himself which, while not inherently gruesome, is chilling.

It’s. Just. Bonkers. Not in the “These people are so wacky” way, but the “I can’t believe this is actually happening” way.

But CAROL. She totally did it right? Probably with that meat grinder... She's a looney tunes, which isn't saying much because every single one of them is.

THE WHOLE THING WAS CRAZY.
Her quote about using sardine oil totally sealed it for me. I would think of rubbing a steak on his boots, not sardine oil?

Everybody in Oklahoma is going crazy for it right now. I'm glad they showed some crazy in other states too.

Also I definitely believe Jeff Lowe set Joe up. Joe deserves his time for sure, but Jeff needs to be locked up too. But no, still running the GW Zoo (even when we're now essential businesses only, they're still open?) and opening the new zoo later this year.

She probably had something to do with it, yes. I don’t want to believe it since, out of all of them, she seemed the least offensive. But I can’t think of a more likely scenario that results with him being missing/dead.

The weirdest thing was that there was no clear “good guy.” I’d want to root for one person only to find out that he/she too was also shady AF.

I only rooted for Saff (arm girl), Cowie (blonde shaggy guy), and Reinke (double amputee) because they seemed to be the only three who were actually interested in animal welfare and frustrated in all the other BS. It was clear that everyone else was in it for the profit, which just made me wonder: ARENT THERE BETTER WAYS TO MAKE MONEY??? Aren’t there other things to sell that aren’t as heavy/expensive/dangerous? Yes, yes there are. They’re called rare coins.

I wanted to like Joe. I really did. I remember when he ran for president and I was into it. A gay, tacky, animal-loving libertarian? Sign me up. But I can’t forgive him for *SPOILER*...

...“euthanising” those tigers. Those animals needed him and he destroyed them. IDK if he was set up for the murder for hire, but he absolutely needs to be on jail for animal cruelty.

See I find her the MOST offensive. Everyone else knew they were ridiculous and crazy, she really, truly thinks she’s a saint and to me that’s even worse.

I saw a thing on Facebook where his one husband (no shirt, three teeth) is actually doing really well AND got a full set in veneers. I was rooting for him and it makes me happy he’s doing well.

I guess my thing is this (and I have no idea if I’m totally off base with this or what)-if you have a zoo there is no way over the course of 15 years or however long that you weren’t going to have some sick animals. Finding some bones honestly means nothing to me... We put dogs and cats out of their misery all of the time, so why is this different? Because they are endangered? That being said, do I 100% believe that is the case with these Tigers? Not necessarily, but that’s only because I know Joe is crazy. I don’t feel like they had a good justification to give him a ton of prison time for that ya know...

I think that Carol’s rescue is the least bad. I don’t 100% agree on how she runs it, but I think she’s at least managing the problem of rescuing exotic pets and giving them some kind of life that isn’t awful. Did she come after Joe to stamp out her competition? Probably in part. But I also think she believed she had a good case for removing those cats from his care. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense to spend so much time targeting some tiny roadside zoo thousands of miles away. Like with most animal rescuers, I’m sure her decision was probably rooted in both passion and profit.

But either way it’s all so murky that it’s hard to decide who is the least gross.

And I got the impression Joe euthanised the tigers because they outgrew their usefulness. As that one guy said, once a tiger matures they’re no longer a lucrative moneymaker. They’re a dangerous, expensive, demanding animal.

But even if the tigers were euthanised because they were sick, I’d still find fault with it because I don’t think they had a chance there. I guarantee there was no vet staff on site to even give a tiger a shot at overcoming even the most treatable illnesses. I’m assuming Joe saw a tiger declining and euthanised it rather than trying to treat it, because if he did that then the animal is officially costing more money than it’s bringing in. Which I think is gross because I feel that when you accept the responsibility of an animal — either personally or professionally — you owe it to them to at least try to do right by them. That goes double for an endangered animal. At some point euthanasia might become the most responsible choice, but I think that should be determined by the animal’s welfare, not the animal’s cost. And I don’t think the tigers got that with him.

On a lighter note, I need that rainbow sequined blazer. Where do you even find clothes like that?

I think Carol is one of those psychotic people that is doing evil things but also believes she is god’s gift to the everyone (and Tigers). People like that are scarier to me than a crazy, outspoken idiot ya know... She was doing exactly what Joe was doing at one point, and then suddenly pretended to take the high road and be the Tiger protector? No way. I don’t believe it.

I also don’t disagree with you on all your points about the killing of Tigers... Knowing the situation and Joe’s mental state, I can’t imagine it was a justified killing. I guess I’m just shocked that is what the big deal was, although this is obviously a documentary and I’m sure there is way more to the story than what we saw. When they found the bones I guess I just thought “well yeah, this can’t be the biggest surprise of this documentary”.

Have you been to Target lately? I’m pretty sure my daughter owns that thing, straight from the Jojo Siwa collection.

I laughed when he busted out the EMT jacket during the emergency. Instead of running to call 911 you ran to get that first?!

i thought all of them were pretty big scumbags, including carole. Outside of some of the volunteers on joe's side....who i think were there on good intentions

i thought carole was the biggest hypocrite of them all, she use to breed and sell cubs herself, so she really cant sit there and say she is a saint, she also is clearly making money somehow through her rescue, unless she is still living off her dead husbands money.

i know she made a facebook post explaining every single thing she was accused of in the doc, some of it makes sense, some i dont believe though. She still keeps tigers in cages, so i truly dont know how she thinks she's above it all.

I first learned of the Tiger King case via the podcast Joe Exotic.

I wasn't going to watch the show because I already knew about the case, but my brother said I HAD to bc it was WAY weirder than the podcast.

He was not wrong.

I guess the better question is where do you find a rainbow sequin blazer in adult men’s sizes?

And yeah, the EMS bomber... why? Maybe just... find that arm first?

I’m surprised more people online aren’t talking about how the CCTV footage caught that guy’s death, or at least the aftermath of it. That part stuck with me. But I guess when you’ve got a bunch of guns and drugs in one place, something terrible was bound to happen.

"talking about how the CCTV footage caught that guy’s death," It seemed like they were always filming.

I think the footage of the shooting came from a security cam rather than a TV camera. But yes, I did notice they always seemed to be filming. The arm incident was 2013, the fire was 2015, and the shooting was 2017. That’s a long, expensive stretch of time to film.

I just started watching this last night (having already seem these comments). And the one guy (Rick Kirkham) who helps with his video's said that Joe was always filming everything he did, all day every day. For years .
