This is ridiculous on so many levels. How is it safe to hold Summit with MORE people but not safe to hold World's? And it's my understanding that Varsity is trying to convince Disney to open June 1st. What about Disney's phased opening that they've been discussing with the FL taskforce? Or did I misunderstand that? Can someone in FL help us understand what Disney is expected to do? I've heard so many things.

This is the one I've seen

For what it's worth, I have seen Disney pushing June 1st since late March. That is the date that they reopened reservations for after stopping all reservations for a few weeks. I had a trip booked for last week, and I received numerous emails for them about rescheduling starting June 1st with various promotions including free dining, discounted rooms, etc. I am an Annual Passholder for WDW and I am getting emails almost every other day that are still mentioning the June 1st date.
Didn’t I Just read that disney might not open until Next year.....

From an insider standpoint. I know there have been talks to reopen parks at only a certain capacity...say 20% at first then more and more as the months go on. I cant imagine disney reaching basically 100% capacity come end of June though. But god I can see that being such chaos and stress on the employees who will have to work it. I can see some bigger programs pulling out. But i think itll come down to one or the other if a program sends worlds team, maybe no summit teams or vise versa...
They also make it sound like worlds is an after thought and it might be more of a consolation prize then a legitimate worlds win. I wonder what went into the decision to save summit over worlds? More money??

Got it! I have a bunch of Disney fanatics in my FB feed and have just seen the heading About 12 times since yesterday! Lol

I read it in an economic article, which also featured another economist using the June 1 date. So who knows.

I’m curious what the costs were for Summit last year? And what they were projected to be this year? Does anyone know?

Doesn’t anyone think that it’s actually the other way around? Disney convincing varsity to hold an event? Because despite being a huge disney fan, that’s actually more of what I’d expect from them.

I'm sure Florida will be thrilled with an influx of people from NY and NJ!! And those programs probably won't represent that well given at this point they will have less than a month in the best case to prepare.

I can't get my head around what any program stands to gain from attending an event in late June instead of focusing on moving forward. Will they receive a lot of money back from Varsity if they attend?

Please God no, stay home...we will see you next year! Ugh

***I know you're being sarcastic, but the number of people who would book a flight without even thinking about it, kinda terrifies me.***

In the meantime, IASF discussed with ICU and is offering to postpone Worlds until late September.

There is a survey for owners, coaches, athletes and other professionals to answer. The final decision will be made in May. Here it is: Survey Page IASF Worlds

I know IASF has a lot of countries under its umbrella. It is only fair to me that everyone is able to voice their opinion.

Will it be at Disney World? No idea. There is no question in the survey regarding the location. But they do ask if their would be an impact on Worlds 2021 if a gym/team participates in Worlds 2020. Some countries might have trouble with their bids.

Will the US teams be happy is Worlds is postponed and they can't participate? Oof...

Yeah, I tend to agree. The thought of Varsity strong arming Disney actually makes me laugh.

It’s time to let it go. We’re all disappointed. But let’s just start afresh.

I read somewhere that the powers that be are willing to let would-be graduating seniors compete with their teams next year. Give them a year extension, basically. Which doesn’t solve a whole lot for those kids who already have plans for college/etc., but it’s something?

No idea if this is true. Just what I read.
