Here’s a 10 minute warning for the start of the American World Cup (a.k.a. SCAM). Live stream link as follows:

This will be the first of four All-Around World Cups that will determine which 3 federations will earn an additional individual berth to the Olympics.

Sigh, this damn virus is causing so many issues.

Team China had to pull out of Melbourne World Cup two weeks ago because of the travel restrictions. Which was extremely unfortunate because they had some first year seniors who were looking to rake up points for individual Olympic berths.

Team Russia has pulled out of American World Cup and Tokyo World Cup, which means they will no longer be able earn an individual Olympic berth via the AA World Cups. The women definitely won’t be earning one via the apparatus World Cups (looking at the leader board), so they’re down to just earning a single spot at Euros (which will be held in Paris for WAG, hopefully that doesn’t get cancelled).

Team U.S.A. and Argentina have pulled out of Jesolo, probably team Russia too. Team Romania and Japan pulled out of Gymnix.

Just in case people were wondering, here’s the schedule of events for the coming month. Everything highlighted in purple have implications towards Olympic qualifications, as well as all the continental championships:

Update on these events:
Doha Apparatus World Cup has been postponed to June 3rd-6th. Which means the individual Olympic berths for the apparatus World Cup series won’t be awarded until then.

Stuttgart Team Challenge and All-Around World Cup have been cancelled. So no federation will receive points for that leg of the series.

Team USA will be holding a friendly meet with team Canada, both juniors and seniors, in the beginning of April. This is a “replacement” for Jesolo. Roster for Jesolo will be the same for this meet.

If the Tokyo All-Around World Cup gets cancelled, F.I.G. will award the 3 (each for WAG & MAG) individual non-nominative berths according to last year’s World Championship team final ranking. Which means USA, Russia & Italy for WAG; Russia, China & Japan for MAG.

Nevermind, the friendly between USA and Canada in replacement of Jesolo has also been cancelled.

NCAA season is basically over... imagine being a senior and not realising that your last meet was your last meet.

Also, Rayderly Zapata from Spain has been isolated in Baku after he came down with a fever right before the qualifications at the Baku Apparatus a World Cup. If he tests positive for the virus, I suspect the conception might have to be cancelled because he did attend podium training and came into contact with a lot of other gymnasts and equipment.

Omg, the Baku Apparatus World Cup was just cancelled... AFTER gymnasts had completed qualifications!!

The Azerbaijan government decided to completely stop all sporting events starting midnight of March 14th, regardless of whether the event is already ongoing.

Also, British Gymnastics is going to have a formal discussion with F.I.G. on Monday. This is to assess the outbreak risk and whether the Birmingham All-Around World Cup should take place.

Another update:
The remainder of the meets in the All-Around World Cup circuit(Birmingham & Tokyo) are cancelled. This means the 3 individual WAG and MAG berths will be awarded based off the highest ranking eligible teams from the QF round at Worlds 2019.

Meaning it will only be awarded once all the continental and apparatus world cup circuit is finished. E.g. If USA WAG earns a berth from Pan Ams and Apparatus World Cup (Jade Carey), then the individual berth will be passed down to team France who placed 4th in the QF of Worlds 2019.

Here’s the issue now...
African Championships have been postponed to an unknown date.
Oceania Championships have been postponed to an unknown date.
Both the WAG and MAG European Championships (Paris & Baku) have been cancelled.
Leaving just the Pan American Championships (Utah) and Asian Championships (Tokyo) still on schedule.

It’s a huge mess for Olympic qualifications, if the Olympics is even going to take place at this point.

That means every single female gymnast on the past two US olympic teams were victims of abuse. Sick.

I was watching the re-airing of the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and felt SO SAD thinking that during these exact games, several of these women were likely being abused by Larry Nassar. So sick.

was it ever confirmed that anyone on the 2008 team was affected... i most have missed that info.

I know Nastia and Shawn have both said they weren't. I get the feeling from Sam's podcast that she wasn't. I don't know about the others. Unfortunately, I think it's reasonable to assume that at least one person was, whether they come forward or not, given how many victims there are. It's heartbreaking.

I would definitely hate wolf turns less if they often looked like they had a solid arm position like this:

I hope she stays healthy, really unfortunate for the 2004 Seniors who probably won’t get to compete internationally at all this year.

I mean that's definitely better than most, but they're still the worst.

I know MAG isn’t a big thing on these threads, but he is a household name in the artistic gymnastics world, so I reckon it deserves a mention.

Sam Mikulak has decided that Tokyo 2020ne will be his swan song:

I wish him the best of luck on the final year of his career. I know for many elite athletes, their sport is all that they’ve known their whole life. If there’s anything positive to come out from this pandemic and the forced quarantine that came with it, it’s that it has allowed these athletes to reflect on the possibility of a life beyond their sporting career.
