sounds like varsity is eliminating stay 2 play from most competitions.

Varsity Spirit - Stay Smart

Good thing: It will be eliminated from 90% of their comps.

But I don't predict that NCA, UCA, Worlds/Summit won't fall into that because they are the larger events.

Question for parents: DO YOU FEEL LIKE THIS CHANGE WILL SAVE YOU $? (even if it may not include Summit/Worlds/UCA/NCA?)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm about 99% sure Worlds and Summit and about 75% sure UCA are not stay to play currently. You are not required to stay at Disney and can usually get a "commuter" package. I know for sure this used to be true, just not 100% sure it hasn't changed in the last year or two. NCA definitely is though.

Summit and Worlds you can opt for commuter, that's what our gym was planning to do for this year, no idea about UCA though.

Thanks for confirming. I was pretty confident they weren't STP, but didn't want to say the wrong thing.

UCA is not a stay to play comp.

UCA and Summit/World's aren't STP. But I predict Cheersport will remain a STP.

The biggest competition companies will still benefit from Varsity's STP and parents will continue to get screwed so the announcement doesn't mean a whole lot to most of us and was met with an eye roll. I could currently book several hotels at great rates or points for 2021 NCA, Cheersport and Majors/Supernationals - all which I am sure will be a STP requirement.

Saw that, and its awesome! It is however sad that it took a global pandemic for them to start listening to what their customers have been begging for for years.

Now that city tourism and business travel numbers are way down, Varsity has the upper negotiating hand. Once business and tourism numbers go up and demand is back, STP will reappear.

Exactly. I can think of at least 6 conferences for next academic year that have already been cancelled/postponed to 2021 or 2022. The conference centers are probably willing to be more liberal on hotel room Block requirements fo get any events at all.

Is the Summit free-for-all really still going to happen a little more than a month from now? I haven't heard of states allowing groups of people to congregate within 6 feet of each other yet, which means no stunting... never mind full run-throughs of routines. And several states are still under stay-at-home orders indefinitely. Kids haven't had proper training in over a month and would need to be eased back in before even thinking about running a full routine safely.

How in the world is anyone actually going to attend this competition in a few weeks? Var$ity can't hold an event if nobody can go. And something feels off about holding this competition when Worlds is canceled and most of the country can't attend even if they wanted to. I'm curious which gyms are still pushing to attend this, and how it's even possible given how close-contact a sport like cheerleading is.

id be curious to see if it even happens at this point. Disney hasnt announced a reopening date and doesnt plan to anytime soon according to a lot of workers. Ive heard rumors, that the parks could open back up before the start of july. But ive also heard they could wait till august/september....

I’ve been wondering the same thing. It seems like most of not all gyms have accepted the end of this season(feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). I can’t help but feel this competition is a recipe for disaster...it’s so unsafe.

Gyms around here have opened, but its far from a team or group thing. Limited people in the gym. Very spread out, basically just privates really. There's no signs of having a team practice anytime soon. I highly doubt any version of a competition will take place.
