All-Star Regional Summit?

I'm wondering if some of the one day comps that were WC only will become regional summit comps. If so,that might make it harder for gyms who planned to do mostly local, one day comps to reduce costs this year

Will teams be able to participate in both a regional summit and big summit? Will bids be awarded at other comps for either regional or big summit or both (this would also affect how much a competition can get away with charging participants). Would gyms need to decide early on which teams will be regional only and which ones will chase big Summit bids? Can teams decide last minute to do a regional if they are getting to the end of the season without a big summit bid? It sounds like there is still a lot to work out.
I read they can decide which one or both to go to and yes there r bids for regional one also.

Curious: Will you be able to cross athletes over from Regional Summits to Big Summit?

Can teams compete for both (ex: get a bid to both and decide which to go to?)

Wondering if you can pick which regional summit to go to like you could with those IEP events (can't recall the name right now)? That would solve everyone's issue of it "not being special". IMO they don't need a big special event every year. They can handle waiting until they're older. Cheer has gotten way out of hand.

100% agree. I see nothing wrong with starting off your cheer career attending the Regional Summit, then Summit and/or Worlds. It gives all age groups something to look forward to at all levels. I dont think kids will be super anxious to get to Junior teams unless their parents or coaches make them feel like The Summit is the "better" or "real" event. It is all about perception. This is coming from a coach of all age groups (youth, junior, senior). It has definitely gotten out of hand.

The likely reason for excluding Youth teams from the "Real Summit" is that Disney has told them Park, Hotel and Wide World of Sports Capacity will be severally limited Look at the main cheerleading venue at WWOS, they won't be able to run more then 2 floors at the most but probably one in that building, the narrow hallways and design make it impossible to adhere to some distancing requirements that will likely still exist then.

I would also expect far less bids to be available as well.
I would also theorize far less wild card bids(in the neighborhood of 30%-50% reduction) and a scaled down or eliminated international summit.

I really hope things don't have to be that drastic still a year from now.

Being honest, unless the virus magically disappears things won't be able to go back to being like they were, especially sports, cheer comps, large theme parks, etc until there is a vaccine. The underwriters I have talked to who underwrite the required insurance for those type of events say there is no way their companies have the risk appetite right now to write a policy that would cover the liability of holding large events like this in form they were previously held.

Things are always subject to change, but that is what I am hearing right now.

I agree! Among the major sports (mlb/nfl) in discussions to resume play they are largely outdoors and are planning for no fans. Tv contracts allow that to be feasible. I am trying to be positive but most outbreaks of Covid 19 are from sustained contact, held indoors and often communal settings. I don't see thousands of cheerleaders and fans packing arenas and hotels this winter short of a vaccine available in massive quantities. I like that Varsity has been pushing out regional and virtual ideas and think they really need to have virtual back up plans for events next season. Perhaps states such as Georgia, Texas, SC , Florida will be more aggressive and hold large scale events but I do not see the more dense states such CA, NY/NJ, MA, RI going back to business as usual any time soon.

A couple of those Regional Summits are scheduled for the same weekend as Worlds. Good luck to the parents who have more than one child and have one kid competing at Worlds while their other kid has to be somewhere else at a Regional Summit. I don't get how this is going to work yet, but then again, everything is subject to change right now.

Yes, the sport has gotten out of control, and it would be nice to have more quality regional competitions instead of constantly putting Youth Level 1 kids on planes to go compete at "Nationals". But these Regional events seem like they'll just be adding to an already crowded schedule filled with 2-day "Nationals". The sport doesn't really need any more bids to keep track of-- Are you going to have to compete at a "National" to get a bid to the "Regional"? Lol not confusing at all.

I could see some of these Regional events being very sparsely attended, especially if they're the same weekend as another major competition like Worlds. Are there enough teams to fill up all of these additional Summits? I guess there's no sense in worrying about it now though. Judging how everything's been going, plans for next season will probably change another 648 times.

I see gyms forcing families to attend as many of these “regional” summits as possible in addition to chasing a “big summit” bid. If there is no progression (as in, you must medal at a regional to advance to “big summit”), it is pointless, at least for the Jr and Sr teams. You will just have gyms choosing to travel to multiple regionals every weekend in April/May instead of their regularly scheduled competitions - which is likely what Varsity is counting on.

So I’m trying to get this straight in 2021 the “year end” events are:
Us finals- Rec, Allstar prep and novice
Regional Summit- All Allstar levels
Summit - all star Junior & Senior
D2 Summit- all star Junior & Senior

Seems a bit much. I would combine US Finals& Regional Summit- make them rec, Prep & novice, Elite Youth and under.
Then combine D1 and D2 summits for Junior & Senior.
Most of the 2 day bid events we go to have 2 arenas and host Both D1&2. Or the smaller venues do D1 in the am D2 later in the day. disney should be able to accommodate this especially without the younger age brackets. Thoughts?
