No changes for CA Plano level 6 Worlds teams this year. Same teams and divisions.

It is early, but was hoping they would add Coalition, Small Coed level 7. Reckless and Royal Court need some more competition.

They had a Ladies of Teal some years back (I think it was actually another LAG5 from same location that competed in same division as SE?)

Anyone else remember that or am I losing it? @wishfulthinking or @luv2cheer92 ?

I'd be okay with them bringing back that name or the Lady Elite name (their old MAG5) and using it here!
Yep they were LAG in 2016. They essentially cut and paste music from previous SE years and half of their routine was recycled SE bits. As long as they dont do that again, I'd be ok with it.

I remember it functioning as like Pre-Senior Elite for newly aged up athletes from Youth/Junior Elite. I believe some former LOTs ended up on SE down the road or are on SE now!

Didn't they also do this in like 2015 with Senior 3lite??

I think themes are fine, they just need to be done thoughtfully. I’m not a big fan of slapping any old theme on a routine. I like them to work on multiple levels and tie back into the identity of the team so it’s evident that thought was invested.

For example, my HS mascot was a cat, our primary color was red, and we were from CA. So we were constantly creating themes based on those factors (“Cat Scratch Fever,” “Wild Wild West,” etc.). So they worked on a few levels. We didn’t just copy/paste a cute idea onto a routine that otherwise made no sense.

I honestly think gym/team names could’ve benefited from some more thought in general. If I’m naming my gym Top Gun, I’m naming my teams after gun stuff, not cats (which might’ve flown better back in the 90’s than it would today, admittedly). And if I want my team names to have a celestial theme, then I wouldn’t name my gym World Cup, a term that brings to mind soccer.

That’s just me though. Obviously these gyms are doing just fine without my input.

Top Gun has teams named after gun stuff: BB's, Squirts, Bullets, etc. And the name Jags was from their inaugural year having to borrow uniforms from a local team, whose mascots were the jaguars, to compete at NCA. Many of their other team names are an homage to something in the past: Angels, OO5, YOSO.

World Cup named their first and only team Shooting Stars before they were even a multi-team program. They were practicing out of a gym called World Cup which is where they got their name. As they expanded they kept the cosmic theme and SS remained their premier team.

There is thought and meaning behind these names.

Lady Elite, Teal Elite rolls off the tongue nicely. I’m a big fan of assonance in team names. Rhyming, but not super obviously.
