For those who have made teams and started the 20-21 season, what does practice look like for y'all?

*Masks?
*Distancing?
*Temp checks and not using stuff like water fountains?
*Nothing at all and just like normal?

I get my team next week, but we have already started practice. We have been in the gym for about 5 weeks now. Some of my friends/ old teammates gyms have started to stunt, but we have not. Got date that we can stunt in July, but who knows. We are currently doing social distancing of 6 ft, caring around a paper towel to wipe mats at stations. Some coaches wear masks, some don't. None of the athletes have worn a mask, during or before and after practice. Bathrooms are open for emergencies only, and water fountains are to refill bottles only. They have a table at the front with hand sanitizer, but you bring your own also. No temperature checks. They tey to encourage social distancing as much as possible, but at the same time, we are kids, and best friends that haven't seen each other for months, so they let a little slide like a quick high five or hug, but nothing more. I know that when I got back to the gym, I hugged some of my teammates, and then one of the other guys in the gym. I missed people lol. Also standing in line is often not 6ft, but it is hard to be precise about that without rolling ou the tap measure and measuring the distance between people.

we start back in 2 weeks. Teams based on video tryouts- but couldMove by end of summer. 1 team at a time. No parents in the gym. No water fountain. No items can stay at the gym. No stunting. Wash hands upon entering and exiting. Wear mask kn lobby.
Sick policy has changed from come to the gym even if you are dead to if anyone has an inkling of sickness in your house stay home! Lol!

also had to send in video tryouts, but then we got placed in level practices and we get team next week. I Will let you guys know my level and team ;). There are about 35-40 people in the gum at a time, but our gym is very large, so we can all stay distanced. We can't have parents in either, but we have been in for about a month now thankfully. We can bring in stuff, in fact, we have to bring a heavy bookbag each practice to practice technique for stunts. We also used to be allowed to come to the gym whenever the doors were unlocked, practice day or not, but now we can only stick to our practice times...:( Our gym is being strict, but not as strict as you said yours is...It's getting very frustrating with all these rules, but at this point, I am happy just to be back in the gym but ready for a change.

Yeah I think it depends on location. We are in NJ which was hit hard. We were supposed to have tryouts and begin leveled practices this week but it was pushed back 2 weeks. So we are just starting with what are assumed teams And like every summer prior choreo we can be moved to other teams to find the best fit. Good luck to you! Is there a specific team / level you are hoping for?

Here it’s social distancing too. Kids kept apart, staff wear masks, no stunting. It feels safe.

We are in practice groups right now. Pretty much all you said, take temps and hand sanitize, no stunting yet, masks on arrival if they want but not during class/practice. Coaches are spotting now in tumbling class and some stunting in stunt class with coaches/adult athletes as bases. Restrooms only open for emergencies, encouraging athletes to go before they leave home. Can only bring water bottle, phone, hand sanitizer, and keys for older athletes. No parents in gym.

We are in Oklahoma and are in phase 3 as of Monday.

So I’m vaguely aware that seniors in 2019-2020 season were granted an additional year of eligibility.

Can someone confirm this? I don’t think I read an official statement anywhere other than “seniors receiving an e-mail from USASF” or something.

I’m just curious what the criteria is that needs to be fulfilled to have another year of senior eligibility. Also, I would love to see data on how many cheerleaders actually went for that extra year of eligibility.
Aging out seniors can only compete on the rostered team that they were on last season. They cannot just join any team/gym.

I agree with the location thing. I am in NC/SC, so we where not hit to bad. yes, I really want to make senior 4 or 5. I'm doing 2 teams I think so maybe both!

I wish we could do stunt classes. Its got to the point where I have gym friends over in the yeard 3 times a week to stunt lol.

Northern VA can go back in the gym (but restrictions) on Friday, other parts of the state are already back indoors. Most gyms have been holding outdoor classes. Maryland doesn’t have a date yet for being indoors but many also doing the outdoor classes. There is so much crossing of state lines in the DC area it seems pointless to be on different phases.

Edit: most haven’t had tryouts yet, though some have done video tryouts for practice groups but not formed teams yet. Others haven’t even posted tryout dates yet. I only know of one gym in the Dc area that has already formed teams.

Coming from Arizona, which basically opened fully back up with no restrictions (and is now facing the worst spike in the nation as a result, whoo hoo), we are pretty much back to normal. There are some changes - when entering the gym you have to get temperature checked and use hand sanitizer, the water fountain has been shut completely off so no using it or refilling water bottles, and nobody is allowed in the waiting room - but we are already stunting, tumbling, etc. very similar to how practices would normally be run, because our state gave the ok for literally everything to open back up. I forsee AZ tightening up once again soon though because of the huge spike.

Speaking from a school cheer position, though, things could not be anymore different than during a regular season. We start practices on this upcoming Monday the 15th, we have to have the practices in the gym with no mats (20 kids max, all 6 feet apart), parents and athletes had to sign waivers, and no equipment can be used until we get to 'Phase 2', whenever that is. So no stunting, tumbling, or anything except conditioning while separated is allowed, so guess my team is gonna have good jumps this year since that's all we can really work? Eh. Definitely different than what I'm going through with Allstar.

I’m so jealous of everyone commenting they’re back(and even in full force, no SD!) I’m in a hard-hit area and we have no clue right now whether the gyms will open in Phase 3(mid to late July) or phase 4(late July to early August). Very difficult:(

I keep seeing gyms (Looking at you Woodlands) where there’s 4 floors full of kids and not one of them has a mask on.

I’m glad to see the cheer industry is taking this seriously.

Masks aren’t allowed in practice? Out am I misreading?

Right, because of the risks of becoming more faint and breathing in more CO2.

ETA: previously if someone was sick but not throwing up they could wear a paper mask and practice. Of course now like someone else said if you have any tiny sign of illness stay away, but I'm not sure why they're not allowing the paper masks, or if those masks even do anything. But with the cloth masks and filtered masks, I can see it. I can barely handle wearing one walking through the grocery store.
