College “cheer” On Netflix: It’s A Hit

I feel absolutely terrible for him and every other black athlete on that team. Ladarius and Jerry carried that show on the backs of their personal stories that were based on the injustices and disparities black athletes must overcome to be able to cheer at the level of Navarro. The world didn't relate to 'cheer' because of Gabi's overprotective stage parents. And now these athletes have received absolutely no support from their teammates. Even privately I'm assuming based on Ladarius' tweets. I am heartbroken for them.

Wait WHAT.

What's happening:

I believe they both quit?

LaDarius was very public on IG about his feelings re: Monica not making a statement re: Black lives and police brutality. He was super critical of them on live. He then stated that he won't support a program that was silent on this issue (because the program did gain attention based on a show that highlighted them as Black men in the cheer world.)

I saw his initial tweets going around about how disappointed he was that no one reached out to him from the team and that is what I was commenting on. I did not see that he had actually left. I dont blame him, as I said above I cant imagine how used he must feel on top of everything else he must be going through as a BIPOC. My heart goes out to him and Jerry.

They were my favorite people on the team. They carried it. I'm sad they left, but I completely understand and support them. Thd5 team and coaches failed them.

Cheer got six Emmy nominations!

Gabi Butler is turning out to be very career-savvy. It seems like she always knows which projects to choose.

As pushy as her parents are, I will give them that they have raised a very media-savvy person.

If you want to take your Cheer Fame and turn it into $$$, you can't just be cheer savvy. You have to be career-savvy with knowledgeable folks behind you. There is a reason you see the Navarro kids from Cheer being super choosy about what they participate in, what they attach themselves to, and even what they say/post on the interwebz. (Ex: No one saying "omg Jerry said ____.")

They are taking their personal brands seriously. (So are their agents, parents, etc.) Ex: Jerry and Morgan doing commercials.

As much money as the University setting typically makes off of athletics, I hope they cash in on this and ride the wave as far as they can.

From the above article:

Their mother has filed a lawsuit against:

*Harris.
*USASF.
*Varsity.
*Cheer Athletics.

(Yes, I know you can name whoever you want in a lawsuit, and it doesn't mean they'll be found liable - but wow.)

CA won’t be found liable in this. I mean Varsity and USASF probably won’t be either unless Harris had a criminal record they ignored during the background check, and it doesn’t sound like he did. Unless they reported it to some higher up and nothing was done, I’m not sure how these organisations — and CA specifically — can be found responsible. It sounds like CA was just his employer at the time.

That's the #1 question in these situations:

What did you know and when did you know it?

That and:

When you knew it what did you do about it?

Sidenote:

I think the liability for Varsity stems from him being an NCA staff member and working camps and comps at the time of the incident (in addition to working at CA.)

Not sure of the timeline, but if someone reported it and they kept him working comps/camps/events, that's no bueno for Varsity.
