Ok, so this is just wrong. The bid event scheduled for December 12-13 in Schaumburg, IL has been moved to Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells, WI. The governor of WI was on tv yesterday imploring people to stay home but he does not have the same authority to shut things down as they do in IL. This week Wisconsin set new records for cases, deaths and hospitalizations.
Doctors and nurses are in despair over the situation there, hospital capacity is maxed and they are exhausted. How completely disrespectful and selfish to not only have planned events there, but move events to WI because other states have tougher restrictions.
as of today WI is one of the top 10 states not to visit......a comp was moved to there????

Welp, the gym I coach at just closed down the gym for 2 weeks. The owner of the gym made the announcement 30 minutes ago.

Has anyone in here competed virtually yet?

What are your thoughts?

How did your gym organize the recording and such?

Do you feel like you had as much competition as you normally would have in person?

Given the choice, would you rather compete in person or stay virtual?

Really curious about how this is working and how people are feeling about it.

I wasn’t there, so I can’t comment yet on how it went, but I believe Jamfest had the first in person competition in Indianapolis last weekend. Masks at all times except optional while competing, limited spectators, only allowed in during your session, and I think awards were in person but I’m not sure.

When a comp starts out face to face and goes virtual, is there a change at all in the comp fee you're charged? (Ex: if your costs reflect a face to face comp fee, and it goes virtual, does the gym cut you a check for the change in price?) Or is the fee same?

after watching the news I doubt the WI comp will happen!!!!

It shouldn't! I live in FL but my family resides in Wisconsin & I have quite a few nurse friends there still. We are discussing if I should even travel to their WI home for Thanksgiving this year due to how bad it is in there. Children's hospitals are being converted to covid care centers because the normal hospitals are at capacity. The infection rate is 40 percent positive currently. Illinois is going into another soft lockdown - I am guessing there will soon be "border patrol" between WI and IL like when Covid first started. The fact I am potentially sacrificing seeing my family, who only get together about 2 times a year, while others are trying to have a trivial large-gathering cheer competition shows how self-serving America is appearing. It's absolutely tone-deaf to even think about competing there right now.

Good question. @WhatAmIDoingHere was supposed to attend. Any insights? There are a few others that obviously will be virtual though they have yet to announce. For example, one we have attended in MA in the past. The facility is currently a field hospital...

Currently we don't have any information on if the comp fees will change. However, I did speak with someone higher up in the gym this past weekend. They made a point that paid bids still need to be covered. So I think they are still expecting fees to remain the same.
