I have valid reasons of both. I have anxiety with the mask and I'm not getting the vaccine. A vaccine is not a cure, we have had a flu vaccine for how long? And guess what? The flu is still a thing.
I personally don't believe this is ever going away. In fact, things and restrictions are only about to get a hell of a lot worse
I'm sorry you feel that way. As I mentioned before, I highly, highly suggest looking into doing some research to help understand some things better. I'm incredibly curious where you get your info from.
Comparing this to the flu just shows a lack of understanding. The previous post shows it even more.
Do you know the long term effects of Covid and if those might be better than the vaccine? We know many of the short term effects, and those are awful enough. Most of which in people who survive, which wouldn't factor into the death rate. Using the death/survival rate as a sole indication for much is not a good way to look at things.
There is absolutley nothing wrong with having and sharing opinions, but having a better foundation for those opinions always helps! There is a ton that we don't know, but using the knowledge we do have can be helpful.
Also having a better understanding may help your mental state. I'm mentally (and physically) exhausted, too, absolutely overwhelmed at work and dealing with/seeing things I never imagined I'd see, but talking it out always helps, so I'm glad to hear you're talking to someone. Please know that I really and truly am trying to help you. If you need someone else to talk to, I'm all ears.

I guess I’m a little bewildered that you think that the vaccine won’t work when it has been shown to be 95% effective (way better than flu vaccine). Where do you get your “opinions” from? Your parents? You should consider googling stuff and reading many different sources of information. Then maybe you’d feel a little more hopeful about this year being better than last!

You're ignoring a pretty long list in the history books. Tuskegee? Eugenics? Radioactive Iodine in Pregnant Women and Newborns? The wealthy, powerful, and unleashed in this world have a history that shouldn't be ignored.

I will be taking the vaccine because I believe the science and the order makes sense to me based on treatment and deaths, but I most certainly considered history and thought of who and possibly why certain groups were at the top of the list.

@cac4life You might be happier focusing and participating in other threads on the board. What are things that make you happy and bring you joy? The uniform thread is fun. I may make a thread for The Majors. That will be coming up soon.

* Just realized there is already a Majors 2021 thread.

Wasn't sure where to put this:

There's been an adjustment to the Cheer Age Grid to help teams with increased flexibility with Unplanned Athlete Replacements between Prep & Elite Athletes for the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19. The updated Cheer Age Grid can be found here

That change seems reasonable, really it is the least of my problems with the age grid. And when did the age cut-off start at 6/1? I missed that. Thought it was 8/1 but when they went to birth year month was dropped entirely? or just not for sr teams?

agree- this was needed for this year. We haven’t fielded a full team practice in awhile. We have girls out constantly for exposure. And fill ins- but there are only a few age appropriate girls who can or want to fill in. It’s tough- I feel for the coaches.

and currently my main issue with the age grid is the Jr team age - 6 up to 15. That is a ridiculous spread. I don’t want my 1st grader on a team with high schoolers. IMO the grid should be youth - grade school, jr should be middle school age, Sr should be high school.

All with a small overlap so the highly talented can move up. But I think that is too reasonable- lol!

LOL, the junior age grid is something else...I guess it works for small gyms, who can only field 3 or so teams.

I'm up in Canada and it's so bewildering to me that live events are even a thing anywhere right now.

Where I am, our gym has been closed since November 1. We don't know when/if we can open. Next update on restrictions is on January 22 so, fingers crossed. All recreational activities have been closed, so all these kids have almost no outlets anymore. And the fines for opening or doing things against the health orders are hefty.

We cannot:
- Eat in a restaurant (take out only)
- Have any hair or aesthetics appointments
- Cannot buy clothing, toys, books, games and wildly long list of other items because they're "non-essential"
- No one can gather indoors whatsoever, outdoors it can be your household plus 5 if you're wearing a mask and distanced
- All elective medical procedures are stopped, there's no room. Therapy etc must be virtual
- Too many other things to consider because it's crazy

In Ontario they're strict stay-at-home orders. Quebec has a curfew. All this to say, we don't have near the pressure, strain or caseload of what's happening in some states, and we're just all holed up and waiting. Our vaccine roll out is, at best, moving at a glacial pace.

It has been hard; not being able to go anywhere or do anything unless it's out doors. Now imagine your average daily temperature is around 5F.

We'll be lucky if we see a competitive season in this country. And even more lucky if gyms make it out alive.
I'm so wildly envious of any gym able to be open and practice and train. It seems so impossible where I am.

So I have some concerns about Cheersport now with the changes that Spirit of Hope has taken.

Is there anyone that has booked for Cheersport? And if so, did you guys see weird cancellation policies?

Last time I worked in the cheer world was almost a year ago. I feel like I am on another planet when I read about new unis, block schedule for NCA, and... Worlds? Is that still a thing? I mean I will be vaccinated by then because of work but there is no way everyone in the industry in Canada will be before season ends. Man these are some wild times.

That's all crazy. There's a difference between safe and crazy, and that's crazy.
Praying for all of u guys up there and for your mental health. I hope it's not affecting everyone too badly. I can see suicide rates in this world going up a lot soon.

I don't know if it is crazy.

Our ICUs were at 165% capacity and we were on the brink of medical professionals having to pick and choose who was going to receive care. For a population in province of 1.3 million, we were announcing 15-20 deaths each day. Our health care system was going to collapse if we didn't shut things down. I'd much rather 'suffer' for 8-10 weeks than see that happen. I cannot begin to process how it would feel as a physician having to decide who received a ventilator and who didn't. And that's what we were facing.

Let me also say, the PTSD that is going to be suffered by our health care professionals, especially those working in Covid wards is going to be substantial. Nurse friends of mine who are working on such wards are so burnt out. My husband is a first responder and daily has multiple calls to Covid positive patients. Hes not a guy to worry, and he's concerned about going to work. Not because he may get sick, he long ago accepted the personal risk associated with his job, but because he could spread it to me etc.

Our provincial government has provided free access to counselling sessions for anyone wishing to access it to help with the impacts of the pandemic. We're not "locked down" or on stay at home orders. I leave my house for my part time job, I can go for freezing cold walks and other outdoor activities. Our government failed in a lot of ways, but the restrictions we currently have worked. Our case count has gone down almost 80% simply by restricting peoples movement.

There was an article published earlier this month and suicide rates here have not increased at all. It's not easy, but anyone who thinks that living through a pandemic of this scale should be easy would be misguided.

I have to agree with all of this. I'm in Ontario and we are facing a similar situation, if not worse. Our stay at home order is effective today and we can get fined if we leave our houses for non-essential things- although outside walks are okay and I'm okay with it. Everyone I talk to is okay with it because we have seen what has gone on around the world from other countries and their healthcare systems collapsing it's scary. My heart truly goes out to all those who are frontline workers right now, it's a terrible situation we're all facing but my hope is that we will get through this soon.

Husband is a firefighter-paramedic. The anxiety I have about him going in for his shifts is astronomical. Using Manitoba for evidence, it does work. Just enough people have to buy in for it to happen.

They said that we should expect this big spike from the holidays and it never materialized. That to me shows how well not gathering works!

No one is debating "how well not gathering works" the problem is how do you provide for your country while you shut it down. Also, once it reopens, the spread resumes. Canada is using Modern Monetary Theory right now to take care of its 38 million people. America has 330 million people and the verdict is still out on MMT, although with every stimulus package that's what is happening.

Modern Monetary Theory states that as long as your country has its own currency, it can just print money to cover debt. There are many countries with their own currency, that have deemed MMT not only necessary during the pandemic, and are disputing it will not cause hyperinflation. The flip side, many economists keep pointing to the example of Germany after WWI when they just started printing money to cover debt. The end result was many people's life savings would no longer purchase a loaf of bread and one US dollar was worth 1 trillion Marks.
