Sad. Do gyms get close to full refunds when these competitions go virtual? Or are they still paying top dollar to “compete at NCA” while at practice? If that’s the case, there’s very little incentive for them to go out of their way to hold the event. They’ll still get their money anyway.

Jamfest Nationals was held last weekend with a lot of teams from all different states. Has anyone heard of any problems at that event? Any large outbreaks, relatives ending up in the hospital, anything? Does anyone know of a single person dying in the past year as a result of a cheerleading related function? I’m curious.

You would probably have to wait a few more days to start seeing effects such as people showing symptoms, hospitalisations etc.

It’s not just risk at the actual event. It’s traveling, being away for several days trying to eat & get around. Hard to stay safe IMO. But hopefully most in Indy were being careful!

My team had to pull at the last minute due to several suspected Covid cases, but from my understanding they did a very good job maintaining social distance between teams. Obviously, within each team there was mixing but in general their system including no standing around, taped off holding areas for each team and their spectators, and virtual awards seemed very safe to me, all things considered.
However, this was a smaller event than normal and I don’t know how well they could implement this for NCA given it’s size so the move to virtual makes sense to me.

If the general schedule is accurate and teams are receiving their scoresheets this week, why the week delay before Awards? I could see if they extended the deadline for filming because of weather, but it seems they're already judging the event and it's just Awards that are delayed.

Thinking about it, I don't really plan on adding scores until after the awards unless things get really public before then.
That wasn't meant to be a criticism so I hope you didn't take it that way! I have already seen that many coaches have given parents scores. I am surprised anyone thought releasing scores so early was a good idea. I understand needing time to review and challenge scores but that should only be a few hour window for each division. Awards may be a mute point by the time they happen, which is one more thing that is taken away from the athletes.

Not at all. Yea, I agree, I wish they hadn't decided to release scoresheets early.

Are teams sending representatives to Texas for any reason? I’ve seen staff and athletes from a few programs on their way to Texas today.

ETA: nevermind I see that TGLC is actually competing in Texas this weekend.

It appears that teams/coaches will get scores now but no awards til the event.

I saw that programs are also asking kids not to share them though so the awards are still a surprise.

Asking kids not to share or leak this and keep it private for like a week is like that toddler experiment where you leave the candy on the table and tell them not to eat it til you return.

I am sure this is going to go well.

Especially when you are a competitive person.

Shoot, if you had told me to wait and not share or seek scores from other school coaches, I couldn't have kept from doing it as an adult.

We would literally all end up playing score Guess Who.

"Hey CHS does your score have a 9 in the tens place?"
