#ceaisover is trending #14 on Twitter. After a series of tweets outlining alleged child abuse, drug use, and sexual improprieties, the hash tag began to trend.
This is not new. Many of the same allegations have been levied at other programs across the country.

Whether or not these things are all true, this is not the 1st time these types of allegations have surfaced within cheer. When athletes are resorting to Twitter to air their grievances, you have to wonder how drug abuse, eating disorders, racism & sexual exploitation claims are being dealt with, within this industry?

Your thoughts?

I saw a particular athlete Twitter post from earlier and just went back and it has taken a huge turn. I’ll give her one thing, the story she told when she quit is still the same story she is telling now with receipts. Also most of the allegations made by other people have been around for awhile. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

I’m not seeing it trend on my top 20 over things like the Texas storm, etc., but whatever algorithms are weird so maybe it’s not showing up for me.

Beyond that basically all I’m seeing is that someone made a Word document airing their grievances with no sources or evidence to back them up, and a bunch of anons regurgitating an anti-CEA hashtag blindly. So nothing new then.

IDK if any of this is true — if it is then it needs to be addressed, as always — but so far this is just color-by-numbers Twitter bullying.

ETA: is that Word doc literally the only thing anyone is going by? Come on guys.

I have not seen a whole lot but I will say this:

1. Some of those are not new at all. I have seen people even on this board say some of those things. Some are news to me.

2. I did see some things in particular that are concerning because they deal with staff/owner kids. It's not okay to bring kids into your issues with a person/program. They did not choose to be owner children.

Yea, these same things have been popping up over and over for years. It gets to a point where it can't be a coincidence (and it's been way past that point for many years).
When similar things were being said 10 years ago, something is going on.

Abuse should never be allowed or condoned. I have zero experience and no first-hand knowledge of CEA. Playing devil's advocate; in general, when you are at the top people try to bring you down. I have seen crazy cheer Moms and their CP's go out of their way to trash gyms when they don't make the team they want, get to fly, get taken down from flying, etc.

Not sure what this thread is about, but what ISN'T "over" in the minds of teens/20-somethings who sit on Twitter all day? Is there ever not drama there? I'm not sure any sport has found a way to deal with instances of abuse flawlessly yet. SafeSport is still a relatively new thing.

I'm pretty sure in the Settings you can tailor your Trends based on your own interests. So if you're frequently looking at cheer stuff on Twitter, you might start to see cheer topics trending (which is likely the case for the original poster). Otherwise, you're just seeing the normal trends everyone sees (either National or World trends depending on your setting). Unless there's something really serious going on, I doubt #ceaisover would ever make it into the National trends lol.

I try to avoid Twitter in most instances because it seems to be overrun by young people who are constantly trying to "cancel" famous/successful people. There's a mixture of fact and fiction there, and it can be difficult to decipher between the two. There are many Anons and people with hidden agendas. People obsess over and latch on to certain gyms/teams and then everyone else becomes the enemy. Some people are just there to bash teams, their former gym, etc. It's so toxic and it can become like the game of telephone where a story gets twisted and worsens the more it gets spread. I know some stories are true, but with this crazy culture of canceling and ending people, it's very easy for things to get distorted or blown out of proportion. A silly app probably isn't the best place to be reporting serious allegations about anything.

I will say that I am pretty sure (if we're thinking of same person) she has told the theft story before.

I can name like 10 different gyms I've seen on here associated with abusive coaching.

I feel like I say this often whenever we end up talking about verbal abuse and emotionally abusive staff but:

It is not okay. Ever.

With that said, it always baffles me that the allegations come from folks who cheered at and stayed at these programs for a long time. People will leave, go back to the place, leave, etc.

There is a level of people/parents wanting wins/clout/placements more than they want best for their athlete's mental health.

That and many times, the behavior is totally fine and acceptable until it is targeted at your kid.

That has to change as well. The $ talks more than tweets do. You take your $ elsewhere and the behavior will change.

Yeah that makes more sense haha. My Twitter account literally follows two cheer things and I use it to lurk and nothing else. I’m not savvy.

i mean im not that surprised, when you have or hire a young coaching staff to coach a team full of teenagers, especially at the high school age, parties, drinking, shenanigans are bound to happen. The rumors of drugs and drinking have been around for years with them though. And it is pretty evidently clear that a lot of their young coaching staff is very close friends with a lot of senior team aged athletes. Not saying that it shouldnt happen, but they definitely dont try to downplay it either. Any teenager that is friends with someone 21 or older, drinking is just gonna happen, i dont care how much parents or gym owners or coaches say about their staff or athletes being the best behaved or whatever they so claim, if your teenager is hanging out with people over 21 they are drinking and probably partying.
as far as the rumors of coaching staff at CEA as a whole bullying or being harsh, that rumor as well has been around for awhile. While i dont condone it, god knows how many seasons of the smoed show we have all watched, harsh coaching is probably a common thing in A LOT of youth sports. So that doesnt really surprise me at all.

IDK about the rumors but I do know that the girl at the center of this is coming across like a spoiled brat. The screenshots she’s posting where she’s talking down to her coaches and trying/failing to get a rise out of them aren’t helping her case. I’m sure she thinks she’s coming across as super witty in those exchanges, but all that’s happening is that she looks like an out of control bully. Her Twitter rants pretty much erase any doubt that that’s exactly who she is.

And I’m sure nameless trolls will eat it up. Unfortunately for her, the trolls are the only people who’ll be in her corner. To anyone who actually matters — like the adults who can shape her career — this will just ensure that she’s “over,” not CEA. I wouldn’t touch this girl at any tryout she showed up at... not when she proudly boasted on her public Twitter account that she was upset at CEA for disciplining her for smoking. That tells me all I need to know.

The rumors might/might not be true, but this is the exact opposite way to bring attention to it. Because now I just think that CEA got saddled with an arrogant, entitled brat who loves tweeting whatever allegation pops into her head but who cannot back anything up. Will not be surprised when her account is suspended for harassment.

I usually agree with you on almost everything, but I don't know about this. She is not innocent, but she is a child in a very messed up, out of control situation where the adults around her were supposed to protect her. She will grow up and regret that behavior I'm sure, but those are adults. Adults. This feels like we are getting into victim blaming, and honestly I would rather have someone call it out with receipts (even messy ones) than make some cryptic tweets about what sorta happened.

I feel like the " we are family" culture tends to make the perfect environment for inappropriate partying/drugs/alcohol because it makes coaching seem less like work.

When you don't have boundaries, people stop seeing it like work, or your kids like athletes they get paid to keep safe. They start seeing you like BFFs and your kids like cousins, sisters, family, etc.

I have seen school cheer programs with this type of culture so I can't even say it's just gyms.

Example: If you take 19 Year Old Coach Billy Bob on family vacays, have them over all the time time to hang out, have them around your kids from the time they're little to the time they're teens, at sleepovers, babysitting, give Billy Bob their preferred teams to coach all the time, Billy Bob is your son's godfather, and kids look up to Billy Bob & treat Billy Bob like "We love our best friend!" - you are creating an environment for Billy Bob to feel like "work rules" don't apply.

The equivalent: If I were a gym owner and made my 18 year old cousin a coach, let her coach a Worlds team of 16 year olds, had her over all the time to hang out and have sleepovers with them, hanging out, going to the mall, being BFFs. Then expecting her to be a professional and enforce rules/be appropriate. Not going to happen.
